St. Xavier Sr. Michael Vitucci, the defending D1 State Champion in the 1600, earned his ticket to the Adidas Dream Mile at the Adidas Grand Prix on June 13th by winning the New York Relays Boys Invitational Mile in a time of 4:14.85 (4:13.37 converted 1600m). Vitucci ran a patient and smart Mile as he took the lead with about 180 to go and pulled away in the last 100m. He was 2nd through the 440 in 67, 4th at the 880 in 2:15, and ran a 1:59 last 880.
The State record in the 1600 is 4:05.13 and was set in 1988 by Bob Kennedy of Westerville North. Vitucci ran 4:07.96 last June. Is this the year Kennedy's record will fall? Only time will tell, but Vitucci is healthy, has the speed and is showing early that he is positioning himself for a run at Kennedy's record.
