4x800 Meter Relay

The Ohio D2 top 10 rankings times were all run in the Regionals. Lake Catholic ran the #1 time of 7:52.57 in winning Region 5. The #2 time was run by SVSM as they were 2nd with a 7:53.78 in Region 5. Region 5 was fast as the #3 times was run by University School who was 3rd in Region 5 with a 7:54.06. Dunbar has the #4 time of 7:56 as they won Region 8. They were 3rd in 2014. The 2nd place team last year, Eastwood has the #5 fastest time with a 7:56.55. They were first in Region 6. Who will win? Lake Catholic and SVSM should battle for the top spot, but don't count out Dunbar.Will there be an Adams-Bell showdown before Saturday?

110m Hurdles

The defending D2 champion is Sr. Errik Snell of Cambridge. Snell won in 2014 with a time of 14.40. He was 2nd in Region 7 with a 14.53 and is ranked D2 #4 with a 14.26. D2 OH #1 is Sr. Caleb Wilt of Miami Trace. Wilt won Region 7 in 14.17 but has run 13.99. #2 is last years 9th place finisher, Sr. Juan Scott of Dunbar. Scott was the Region 8 winner in 14.46, but has run 14.10 this year. #3 is Eastwood Sr. Devin Snowden. He was 2nd in Region 6 with a 14.46 but has run 14.22. #5 is Sr. Lenell Shelby of Ontario. Shelby was 8th last year (14.92) and was the Region 6 winner with a 14.42. The field is talented and experienced. Wilt is the only one who has been under 14. If he starts good and is clean, it should be his race.

100m Dash

The defending State Champion is So. Dakari Carter of Streetsboro who won with a time of 10.81. He was first in Region 5 with a 10.61 and is ranked D2 #2. Of the under classmen last year, Marion Pleasant Sr. Kyle Galyk had the second fatest time in the finals. He was 7th in 11.20 and was 4th in Region 6 with an 10.98. Jr.Tyler Johnson of Stivers won Region 8 with an 11.03, but is ranked D2 OH #1 with a 10.52. Jr. Asa Burke of Columbus East was the winner in Region 6 with a time of 10.65. He is D2 OH #3. Tyler Johnson won indoors and he just may do the same outdoors.

4x200 Meter Relay

D2 OH #1 is Streetsboro. They won Region 5 with a time of 1:27.65. SVSM was 2nd with a 1:29.99. The #2 team is Dunbar with a 1:28.64 in Regionals. They have run 1:27.77. They are the defending State Champions , running a 1:28.03 last year. River Valley won Region 6 with a time of 1:29.53 and are ranked #4. Van Wert ran 1:30.30 in their Regional, but is #5 having run a 1:29.60 earlier in the year. Eastmoor is ranked #6 and come out of Regionals with a 1:30.16. They ran 1:29.74 earlier in the year.The other team with a qualifying time under 1:30 is Toledo Rogers who was 2nd in Region 8 with a time of 1:29.84. It may come down to who has the best exchanges between Streetsboro and Dunbar.

1600m Run

CVCA Sr. Ryan Adams is the defending Champion. In 2014 he ran 4:18.44. He comes out of Regionals with a 4:12.62. He has the fastest time in the 1600 this year in the State with a 4:08.61. He is definetly the one to beat. Chagrin Falls Jr. Joe Bistritz was 2nd to Adams last year in 4:18.80 and has the 2nd fastest qualifying time of 4:17.86. Bistritz has an OH #4 in the 1600 of 4:13.24. Two other runners have Regional qualifying times under 4:20. Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Sr. Mick Stanovsek has a time of 4:16.26 and is ranked #8 in Ohio. CVCA Sr. Joe Rossetti ran 4:19.50 but has an earlier time this year of 4:16.70. One other individual however, may play a large part in how the race develops and possibly who wins. Sr. Brian Bell of Dunbar has run 4:17.91 and has the speed and talent to run a fast 1600?

4x100 Meter Relay

Padua Franciscan ran 42.87 in winning the Region 5 race. They have run 42.77 and are ranked D2 #2. Streetsboro ran a 43:83, placing 3rd in Region 5, but has run 42.78. Poland Seminary was 2nd in the Region with a 43.10 that ranks them #5. There are 5 teams over 44.00. Of the 10 teams that have run 43.00, they are separated by .93 seconds. Franciscan and Streetsboro have the fastest times, but it usually comes down to exchanges.

400 Meter Dash

Stiver's Jr. Tyler Johnson won Region 8 with a 48.57. He was 3rd last year with a 48.41 and has run a D2 #1 time and OH #3 time of 47.82 this year. Two other runners ran under 49. Last years #8 with a 49.53 was Jr. Ant-Juan Lewis of Waynedale. He was the Region 6 winner with a 48.59. Jr. Wayne Lawerence Jr. of Meadowdale was 2nd in Region 8 with a 48.71 and is ranked D2 OH #3. Nine runners are in the 49's, but this should be Tyler's race to win.

300 Meter Hurdles

Sr. Caleb Wilt of Miami Trace is the only returner. He was 9th last year with a 39.77. He comes as the Regonal 7 winner with a 38.07 and a D2 OH #4 ranking. Sr. Errik Snell of Cambridge was 2nd in Region 7 and has a #5 ranking with a time of 38.10. The fastest time of the qualifiers is 37.90 by Sr. Matt Ludwig of Lake Catholic. Ludwig was the region 5 winner and is ranked D2 OH #1. LaBrae Jr. Kevon Harris was 2nd in Region 5 with a 38.16. The Region 6 winner was Sr. Elijah Barber of Eastmoor. Dunbar's Juan Scott won the Region 8 race with a 38.10 but has run 38.07. This is a tough one to call and will be very competitive. Ludwig or Wilt will win.

800 Meter Run


This just may be one of the best races of the two days. Sr. of Ryan Adams of CVCA is the defending Champion. He doubled last year winning both the 1600 and the 800. He won the 800 in a time of 1:52.59. He ran 1:52.99 to win Region 5. He is ranked OH #3 with a 1:52.13. Dunbar Sr. Brian Bell is ranked #1 OH with a 1:51.04. He is the NBIN champion and has split sub 1:50 indoors anchoring Dunbar's Sprint Medley Relay to an NBIN win and new Scholastic record. Bell was 2nd last year at State running 1:53.54. Sr. Tim Hoodlebrink of Eastwood was 3rd last year in 1:53.88 and won Region 6 in 1:55.59. Sr. Jordan Pritchard of Lake Catholic was 7th last year with a 1:56.20. He has run 1:54.91 this year and is ranked D2 #3. D2 #4 is Sr. Mick Stanovsek of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin with a 1:55.47. He ran 1:55.51 in Regionals. Three other runner ran 1:55's in Regionals: Sr. Max Lewis of Indian Creek, Sr. Matt Orr of Bay Village and Sr. Noah Smith of Eastwood. I'm not going to pick this one. Just watch. It will be fast!

200 Meter Dash

Six runners come in with times under 22.00. D2 OH #1 is So. Dakari Carter of Streetsboro. He was 3rd in 2014 with a time of 22.16 and has run 21.36 (w). The Region 6 winner was Jr. Asa Burke of Columbus East. Burke ran 21.49 at Regionals. The #3 ranked runner was 2nd in Region 5 with a time of 21.76. Sr. Kyle Galyk of Marion Pleasant is ranked $3 with a 21.88. He was 5th in 2014 with a 22.26. Sr. Justin Ranking of Elyria Catholic was 3rd in Region 6 with a 21.90 and has the #5 ranking. Jr. Tyler Johnson of Stivers qualified with a 22.19 but has run 21.96. This should be a fast final and is really up for grabs.

3200 Meter Run

Forget the Regional times. Two runners come in under 9:30. SVSM Sr. Joe Rosetti has run D2 #1 9:20.87. #2 is Sr. Ben Stites of Wyoming with a 9:28.94. Lexington Jr. Nick Stricklen was 3rd last year in 9:42.46 and has run 9:30.12 this year. Sr. Kyle Bussard of Valley View is ranked #4 with a 9:31.65, #5 is Sr. Brandon Avers of Ostego with a 9:33.77. Rosseti gets the nod.

4x400 Meter Relay

The 4x400 is always an exciting finish and anything can happen, but this one should come down to Eastwood (3:18.09), Dunbar (3:20.06) and Eastmoor (3:21.18). That's not to exclude Clyde with a 3:22.22, Lake Catholic with a 3:22.64 and West Branch with a 3:22.78, but it should be a battle between Dunbar and Eastwood. Eastwood has the fastest time.

Discus Throw

Three are over 175.00, however, Sr Trevor Detillion of Unioto has thrown 203.65. OH #2 and US #4. He is the defending champion with a throw last year of 181.00. Sr. Noah Castle of Wauseon was 2nd last year with a throw of 180.02 and is ranked D2 OH #2 with a throw of 186.01. Sr. Zack Harkey of Huron is D2 #2 with a throw of 177.10. Hard not to pick Detillion.

High Jump

OH #2, Sr. Cody Stine of Shelby and Jr. Jeffrey Floyd of Linden McKinley head the D2 boys with jumps of 6-10. Right behind them are OH #5's Sr. Cameron Burrows of Sandusky Perkins and Sr. Zach Robbins of West Branch with a jumps of 6.09 and Sr. Chisom Ifedi of Centennial with a jump of 6.08.

Long Jump

This is an experience field with 7 returners. D2 Oh #1 is Sr. Devin Snowden of Eastwood with a jump of 23-05.25. He was 4th last year with a 21-08.50. #2 is Sr. Darius Farmer of Warrensville Hts. with a 22-10.5. # 3 is returner Sr. Ryder Bell of University School with a leap of 22.09.5. #4 Sr. Jordan Vincent of St. Clairsville with a jump of 22-08.50. #5 is Sr. Riley Fillman of Hanoverton United with a jump of 22.08.25. Sr. Cameron Hart of Bishop Hartley has jumped 22-05.75. Sr. Jair Knox of Purcell Marian has gone 22-03.00. If Snowden is on, he wins, but this will be a vary tight competition.

Shot Put

Five throwers are over 58', including OH #4 Sr. Walt Petzel of Zane Trace with a throw of 60-00.75. OH #5 is also in the field. Sr. Cole Gehrisch of Ontario who has gone 59-11.75. D2 Oh #3 is Sr. Mitchell Soviak of North Union with a 58-10.50. #4 is Sr. Trevor Detillion of Unioto with a 58-09.75. with a throw of 58-10.50. The fifth thrower over 28' is Sr. Bronson Krull of Ontario who has a throw of 58-07.25. It should be a very competitive competition and Petzel and Gehrisch will fight for the top spot on the podium.

Pole Vault

Four vaulters are over 15'. One over 16'. Sr Matt Ludwig of Lake Catholic is OH #1 this year with a vault of 16-4. He was 3rd last year with a 15-6 and someone is going to have to step up to beat him this year in the D2 division. The three other vaulters at 15' or better are Sr. Cole Wigal of Vincent Warren with a vault of 15-03., and Sr. Craig Martin of River Valley Calendonia and Jr Nicholas Lauria of Perry with vaults of 15-00.
