Lincoln Quarter-Horse Tamani Wilson On Her Way To Ohio State

Lincoln senior Tamani Wilson, one of the top 400m runners in the state as well as the nation with a personal best of 54.17 has committed to Ohio State University. We caught up with her to talk about the decision.

Flrunners.com: What was the recruiting process like for you?

Tamani Wilson: The recruiting process has truly been a blessing because I was in a position in which I could basically choose any University across the nation to attend with a full scholarship. Words can't explain how awesome this process has been for my family and I. Plus, I have three younger brothers that play football and run track and they were amazed when certain top schools were calling their older sister.

FLR: What schools did you consider/visit?

TW: I took officials to Tennessee, South Carolina, Miami, FSU, and UCF. Also, I took a couple of unofficial visits as well. At first, I didn't want to go too far from home but toward the end of the recruiting process Ohio State caught my attention.

FLR: What was it that sold you about the Buckeyes?

TW: I knew a couple of athletes that were coached under Coach Karen (Dennis) and they had nothing but good things to say about her track and field program.  Also, based on my research Ohio State has a top ranked business program and that sealed the deal for me. Great school, great academics, great coach and a new journey for me to leave my legacy.

FLR: During your time in high school you've ran the 1,2, and 4, but the quarter has really been your specialty. Is that what you plan to focus on at the next level?

TW: Yes, my focus will be the 400m and relays. However, dropping my 200m time will definitely be a priority as well.  I will run any event that will make an impact in helping my future teammates win a national title. So who knows, you may see me in the 400m hurdles.

FLR: What are you looking forward to the most about attending Ohio State?

TW: I look forward to a new environment, new training partners, new coaches and a great university to start the next chapter of my life.

FLR: Now that your college decision is made how excited are you for your last high school season?

TW: Early signing for me was a must in order to focus on my training and my goals for this upcoming season. My goals are to stay healthy, help my team win 3A state, run fast, and set more pr's.

FLR: Is there anyone you'd like to thank for helping you get to where you are at today?

TW: I would like to thank God first, my Dad and Mom, my coaches and everyone who has supported me on this journey.  I couldn't have made it to this point in my career without each and every one of them.

FLR: Finish this sentence... Tamani Wilson is _______.

TW: Tamani Wilson is just getting started, stay tuned.
