NEOITC - All-Star Meet - Recap

           Solon High School won the Boys 4 x 800m competition at the NEOITC All-Star Meet. 


The NEOITC series hosted its season finale at the Spire Institute on Friday, February 17th with the All-Star Meet.  Featured in this meet were the Top 16 Qualifiers from each event from a combination of the Buckeye Division and the Erie Division.  The blending of these elite athletes from each division ensured that a high level of track and field action would be demonstrated in Geneva.

Olivia Howell of Solon High School and Mentor's Matt Bull took the 1600m wins in tightly contested match-ups. Howell pulled away late from Shaker Heights' Sophie Carrier to secure her victory in an Ohio #3 time of 5:05.70.  Carrier registered a 5:11.25 result which is the #11 ranked time in the state this season.    

On the boys side, Matt Bull led for the duration of the race on route to his 4:21.13 winning effort while Lake Catholic's Jacob Keating and Solon's Danny Cohen engaged in a spirited battle for 2nd place with Keating narrowly edging Cohen at the line.  Jacob Keating finished in an Ohio #15 time of 4:23.13 while Danny Cohen produced an Ohio #16 time of 4:23.98.

           Olivia Howell from Solon High School eventually took the 1600m win in 5:05.70. 


           Matt Bull started fast and put a substantial gap on the field early in the 1600m race. 


           Mentor High School's Matt Bull put forth a late kick to secure the 1600m win in 4:21.13. 


           Jacob Keating and Danny Cohen pushed each other to strong finishes in the 1600m race. 

Mimi Reimers and Joe Riordan were the 1st place finishers in 3200m competition as Reimers claimed her win with an Ohio #10 time of 11:15.24 and Riordan posted a 9:46.74 result.


           Mimi Reimers won the 3200m and earned a Top 10 ranking in the state. 


           Joe Riordan from Solon High School quickly separated himself from his competition.

In the team relay competitions, Euclid High School won the Girls 4 x 200m in an Ohio #3 time of 1:44.55 and Cleveland Heights captured the Boys 4 x 200m win in 1:29.98 which is an Ohio #3 and a U.S. #16.  In 4 x 800m action, it was the Eastside Track Club girls and the Solon boys team who demonstrated winning performances.  The Eastside Track Club finished in a time of 9:42.00 while Solon clocked an 8:15.70 result.

 

           Caisja Chandler finished off Euclid High School's Girls 4 x 200m Relay win. 

           Cleveland Heights won the 4 x 200m and earned an Ohio #3 and a U.S. #16 in the process. 

           The Eastside Track Club won the Girls 4 x 800m Relay in a time of 9:42.00.  

           Solon HS took the Boys 4 x 800m win at the All-Star Meet with their 8:15.70 finishing time. 

In the 60m Hurdles events, Perry's Leah King and Lake Catholic's Connor Duricky topped their competition with winning times of 9.19 for King and 8.20 for Duckicky.  King's time is an Ohio #11 while Connor Duricky is the #1 ranked 60m Hurdles runner in Ohio from a result which was produced earlier this season.  His 8.06 effort from NEOITC Erie Division #2 Meet in January also represents a U.S. #23.


           Perry High School's Leah King won the Girls 60m Hurdles competition.  


           Ohio #1 ranked Connor Duricky won the Boys 60m Hurdles race in 8.20.   

The impressive performances that have been noted are just a small sample of the exciting highlights from the NEOITC All-Star Meet. Congratulations to all of the athletes who qualified to participate in this prestigious invite-only meet and good luck to all of the athletes from the Erie Division and the Buckeye Division who will be going on to test themselves against elite competition at the State Championship in Akron on March 4th.
