Sub 4:10 Finishers - D1 1600m Performance Spotlight

The top 3 finishers produced sub 4:10 times in the D1 1600m state championship race.

The D1 1600m race was one of many thrilling contests that took place at last weekend's OHSAA State Track and Field Championship, as the stacked field of runners produced seven of the top ten times in the Ohio rankings.  While from top to bottom the participants in the 1600m event demonstrated exceptional distance running, we'll focus on the three athletes who ran under the 4:10 barrier.

Lakota East's Dustin Horter took the win in a fast time of 4:08.38 and he was followed closely by runner-up Arjun Jha of Thomas Worthington High School and Dublin Coffman's Lucas Bons, who finished in 3rd place.  Jha produced a time of 4:09.09 and Bons recorded a 4:09.89 result.

Here are some statistics regarding these stellar performances:

3rd place - Lucas Bons: 4:09.89 - Ohio #3 / U.S. #25 / a new P.R. and a Dublin Coffman school record.

Dublin Coffman's Lucas Bons secured 3rd place against a talented field of 1600m runners.

2nd place - Arjun Jha: 4:09.09 - Ohio #2 / U.S. #17 / a new P.R. and a Thomas Worthington school record.

Thomas Worthington's Arjun Jha ran his second sub 4:10 1600m race of the season.

1st place - Dustin Horter: 4:08.38 -  * Note: Horter ran a slightly faster time of 4:07.52 at last month's Greater Miami Conference Championships and this result represents:

- Ohio #1 / U.S. #9 / Ohio #4 All-Time / a P.R. / a Lakota East school record.

Additionally, Dustin Horter has gone undefeated in individual races this season (800m, 1600m, 1 Mile & 3200m) and in the 1600m distance, he has run under 4:10 three times.  He'll test himself against many of the country's best milers at the upcoming Brooks PR Invitational in Renton, Washington.

Lakota East's Dustin Horter is the top ranked 1600m runner in Ohio.

The D1 1600m race excited those who were in attendance at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and considering that Horter, Jha and Bons are all juniors - we can look forward to more spirited contests between these three athletes during their senior year.  Congratulations to Dustin Horter, Arjun Jha and Lucas Bons on their impressive performances!

Dustin Horter will face elite competition at the upcoming Brooks PR Invitational.

Arjun Jha and Lucas Bons posted excellent results in the 1600m state championship race.
