Tyrese Bandy is one of the hardest workers that I've ever coached. He's the type of athlete that will give you full effort day in and day out. You don't often see that athlete that has a tremendous amount of natural talent and an incredible work ethic, but Tyrese is one of the few that has both.
I also coached football at our middle school, so I've had the opportunity to coach Tyrese while he was in 7th and 8th grade where he was one of our standout wide receivers. Fortunately for me, I recently took the head freshman football job at Fitch, so I'll have the luxury of coaching Tyrese again this summer and fall in football before we get into the track season. He's a big play guy that is a threat downfield catching the deep ball or someone that can make a catch underneath and turn up field and outrun the entire defense in the blink of an eye. Part of our summer program for freshman football involves time dedicated to speed training. We ran 40 yard dashes recently that we timed electronically with Freelap and Tyrese ran 4.46 and 4.48 on back to back reps.
He'll make an immediate impact for our track team at Austintown Fitch. We are in need of some depth in our 200 / 400 group and he can step into that role right away. Tyrese and I haven't had the chance to sit down and talk about goals for his freshman track and field season since he's been so busy with AAU track and football, but I feel that he has ability to go mid 22's in the 200 and sub 50 in the 400 by the end of the season.
We were a young team last year in our sprint / hurdle / jump group, so adding someone like Tyrese to a talented group of returners such as sophomore sprinters Ralph Fitzgerald (who missed out on qualifying for state in the 100m in a runoff) and Drew Bretsik, hurdlers Dylan Beany and Devin Moore and jumpers Jakari Lumsden and Deondre McKeever, who were all regional qualifiers and Lumsden a state qualifier this past season. The future of Austintown Fitch track and field is bright!
