With one month to go until the OATCCC Indoor State meet, many student athletes put up some great times and marks. A total of 30 new Ohio #1 marks were set this weekend, with 25 of those marks being OATCCC Indoor State Meet events. The other five marks came from events that are not contested at the state level.
Bowling Green Sid Sink HS Open - Complete Results
Senior Ashley Zaper of Anthony Wayne was a three time winner. Zaper won the High Jump (5'4"), the 60m Hurdles (9.62 in the finals, 9.61 prelims) and the Long Jump (17'5.25").
Erin Pendleton of Woodmore, a senior, was a double winner, winning both throwing events, going 47'0" in the weight throw and 40'8" in the shot put.
Junior, Justin Welch of Eastwood had an impressive day, taking the lead in the state in the shot put and improving on his lead in the weight throw. In the shot put, Welch unleashed a toss of 61'2.75", currently the sixth best throw in the nation, while in the weight throw Welch popped off a heave of 73'10", the third best throw in the nation.
Rogers senior, Erik Kynard, opened up in the long jump in a big way. Kynard soared 22'6.5" for a new Ohio #1 mark. Kynard has also has the current US#1 mark in the high jump at 7'2.5".

Great performances in the relays all around. Collinwood set new state leading times in both the 4x200m (1:42.63) and 4x400m (3:57.69) on the girls side. And in the girls 4x800 Medina just edged out Solon to take the lead in the state, 10:10.60 for Medina to Solon's 10:10.64.
In the guys relays, Glenville ran new state leading times in the 4x200 (1:30.51) and in the 4x800 (8:06.52).
The girls field performance of the meet belonged to Medina sophomore Taylor Burke, who cleared 5'10" in the high jump to take home the gold. Burke's jump not only leads the state, but also the nation.
The girls track performance of the meet had to belong to Chelsea Oswald, a senior from Walsh Jesuit, who cruised to a new state leading time in the 3200m of 10:50.35, which is also the ninth fastest time in the nation so far this year.
The final Ohio leading performance on the girls side belongs to junior Caitlin Hartnett of Solon, who ran a 2:18.24 in the 800m.
On the guys side, senior Donny Roys of Medina opened up a four second lead on the rest of the state in the 1600m run by going 4:24.07.
In field event action, Boardman senior Caleb Matthews cleared 43'8" to become the new state leader in the Triple Jump.
UK High School Invitational - Complete Results
Ohio had many great performances at this impressive gathering of national talent. Starting in the field events, senior Jack Greenlee of St. Xavier, finished second in the pole vault by clearing 15'0". Alyssa Hall, a senior from Withrow also took home a silver medal by clearing 5'8" in the high jump. Hall's jump of 5'8" ties her with five other athletes for the fifth best jump in the nation by a female. Senior Justin Meyer of Elder finished third in the High Jump by clearing of 6'4". Finishing fourth in the High Jump was senior Anthony Walriven of St. Xavier, who cleared 6'0". Another third place field event finisher was Reggie Mitchell, a senior from Elder, who went 21'8" in the long jump.
Brittany Wilson, a senior from Harrison took home the gold in the girls shot put with a heave of 39'7.25" to take the lead in Division I on the rankings lists. The top Ohio thrower on the boys side was sophomore Mike Bennett of Centerville who tossed the shot 51'9".
In running events Ohio had impressive performances up and down the board. In the sprints, junior speedster Blake Heriot of Gahanna-Lincoln finished third in the 60m dash in a time of 6.90 seconds. Heriot then finished second in the 400m dash, blazing a 47.53 for the second fastest time in the nation. To finish off his day, Heriot also finished third in the 200m dash in a time of 21.71, good enough for the sixth fastest time in the US. Heriot marks in all three events are lead Ohio this season, but as of yet Heriot is not eligible for the OATCCC Indoor State Meet as he has been running for Pacesetters Track Club, and not his high school.
Will Henry of Trotwood-Madison, a junior, ran the fifth fastes time in the nation, and second fastest time by an Ohioan in the 400m dash with a time of 47.91
Danheisha Harding, a senior from Chaminade Julienne ran the second fastest time by an Ohioan in the 60m hurldes this year, finishing third in a time of 9.10.
Walnut Hills junior Ashley Liverpool ran the second fastest time by an Ohio this year in the 400m, finishing third with a time of 57.24.
Mahagony Jones, a senior from Rhodes, took home a pair of bronze medals, the first one coming in the 60m dash, where Jones ran a state leading time of 7.59 seconds, which is also the sixth fastest time in the US. In the 200m dash, Jones again set a state leading time by running 24.74, currently the 10th best time in the US.
Senior Moise Frisch of Whitmer took home the gold in the 800m by running a state leading time of 1:54.94, which is also the seventh fastest time in the nation.
Zach Wills, the sophomore sensation from Mason ran an amazing race in the two mile, going 9:13.04 to set a meet record (which was previously held by Springboro's Chad Balyo) and the current US#1 mark. The most impressive thing about this race may be that Wills beat two Footlocker National Finalists. Wills 9:13 for the two miles is faster than his first place finish in last year's OHSAA State Championship 3200 time of 9:15. Wills time also converts to a 9:09.83 3200m which would be the fourth best time in the nation at that distance. Obviously this is the fastest time run by an Ohioan this year and leads the state when converted to a 3200m time.
Trotwood-Madison's boys 4x400m team won the event, setting a new Ohio #1 Mark and the US#8 mark by running a 3:20.66.
Central District Championship - Div I/Div 2 Field/Div 2 Running
In the Division I girls meet, Westerville Central senior, Porsha Gandi was a two time winner, winning both the 60m dash (7.92) and the 200m (26.90).
Freshman stud, Tsehaye Hiluf of Reynoldsburg won the 1600m run in a time of 4:35.84, nearly ten seconds faster than the next closest competitor in the Division I race.
In Division II boys action, Coty Cochran of River View, a senior, was a three time winner, winning the 200m dash (23.60), the 60m dash (7.12), and the 60m Hurdles (8.26).
Marietta College HS Meet #3 - Complete Results
Senior DJ Duke of River won shot put with a toss of 59'5.25" and Bo Crabtree, a senior from Valley won the weight throw with a toss of 58'5".
Lauren McCullough of Fairfield Union won the weight throw with a heave of 33'7.75" and finished second in the shot put with a throw of 32'2.5".
KTCCCA Indoor Meet - Girls Results / Boys Results
Senior Colleen Hennessy of Mother of Mercy was a triple winner at this meet, winning the Long Jump (15'4"), Triple Jump (29'1") and the 55m Hurdles in 9.13 seconds. While Glen Este sophomore, Michelle Thomas, was a double winner in the 800m (2:28.38) and the 1600m (5:26.21).
On the boys side, Ohio event winners include Bill Hoggard of Peebles in the triple jump (39'7"), senior Jeff Tieke of Glen Este in the long jump (20'11"), and senior Mitch Neal of Glen Este in the 400m (55.85).
Kent State HS Open #2 - Complete Results
On the boys side, two new Ohio leading marks were set in the distance races. In the Mile Run senior Jeremy Schiele of Solon moved to the top of the leader board by running a 4:31.71. This time, when converted 1600m times is the third fastest time in the state, but the fastest for the actual One Mile Run.
In the longer distance race, the 3200m, senior Julian Meyer of Revere ran a 9:31.88, which is six seconds faster than anyone else in the state at that distance.
On the girls side, Bekka Simko, a junior at Gilmour Academy, was a double winner. Simko won the Mile Run in a time of 5:30.75, and also the 800m in a Division II state leading time of 2:18.87.
Oberlin College HS Meet #2 - Complete Results
Olmsted Falls senior, Katie Nageotte, opened up her indoor season in a big way. Nageotte jumped 12'6" to set her PR in the Pole Vault, and to take the lead this season in Ohio. Nageotte finished second at last year's outdoor State Championship by going 12'4".
Dwayne King, a senior from Cleveland Heights leapt 6'10" in the high jump to take home the gold. King's jump is the second best in Ohio and tied with three others for the fifth best in the nation.
