Shaker Heights' Sophie Carrier is set to compete for the University of Kentucky

Shaker Heights' Sophie Carrier will compete for the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

One of Ohio's top cross country and distance runners has confirmed her college choice.  Shaker Heights High School's Sophie Carrier will head south to Lexington next year to compete for the University of Kentucky!

Sophie Carrier has had a strong cross country season to date, as she's collected three race wins and six top 3 finishes in seven starts.  Carrier is currently ranked 17th in Ohio from her 17:58.00 effort at the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival in September.  This results represents a PR for the Shaker Heights senior.  Carrier has demonstrated consistency this fall as all seven of her race results have been under 19 minutes.

Sophie Carrier has had an excellent XC season with three race wins and a sub 18 result.

On the track, Sophie Carrier's specialties are the 1600m and 3200m events where she has posted impressive PR's of 5:05.38 and 10:31.23 (both outdoor).  Carrier was the runner-up in the 3200m event at the D1 OHSAA State Track and Field Championship last June.

When reached for comments, Carrier had this to share:

"I'll be racing XC and then the 5K and 10K in track at UK.  This is super awesome because I love the longer distances because they are much more tailored to my racing style and strengths.  I can't wait to be surrounded by such a great team, coaches and program!  Go Wildcats!"

Sophie Carrier is excited to test herself in XC and on the track at the college level.
