5 Events to Watch: Girls Field Events

1. Girls Division 1 Pole Vault

Finals: 3:00pm Saturday

With the returning State Meet Record holder, Kelsey Ahbe of Green, returning for the Division 1 Pole Vault, you know that talent is returning.  The big "surprise," if you will, is the fact that Ahbe is not even the favorite this year.  Katie Nageotte of Olmsted Falls comes to Columbus fresh off of a Division 1 record and overall State Record tying performance at the regional meet with a jump of 13-0.

2. Girls Division 3 Shot Put

Finals: 4:00pm Friday

It might take a 40 foot effort just to make the finals in this division.  Six girls have already thrown over 40' this year and another five girls are looking to join the 40 foot club, having already gone 39 feet this year.  Christine Borchers of Versailes leads the way in this tight pack with a personal best throw of 43-10.25.

3. Girls Division 2 Long Jump

Finals: 9:00am Saturday

The top seven qualifiers in the meet are all within 5 inches of each other according to their PR's.  And 12 of the 16 jumpers have all jumped in the 17's.  This will be a tight finish, and very likely could rely on athletes second best jumps to make the finals or to determine places.

4. Girls Division 1 High Jump

Finals: 12:00pm Saturday

Taylor Burke, a sophomore from Medina, has the best jump in the state this season at 5-10, is tied for the 6th best jump in the nation and went 5-11 at the indoor state meet this past year.  Burke has a goal of 6-0 this season, and this is one of her last chances to get it.  Read the Taylor Burke article here.

5. Girls Division 1 and 3 Discus

Division 1 - Finals: 12:00pm Saturday
Division 3 - Finals: 1:00pm Friday

This was a toss up, in Division 1 you have last years gold, silver and bronze medalists returning along with 5 of the 9 finalists from a year ago.  In Division 3 you have the state meet record holder in Erin Pendleton (2nd best throw in the nation with a 167-6) returning to defend her title and continue the current five year streak of having a Pendleton winning the Division 3 Girls Discus.
