5 Events to Watch: Boys Individual Races

1. Boys Division 2  1600m Run

Finals: 5:05pm Saturday

This might be the most anticipated race of the meet, if not the entire season.  Vandalia-Butler's Danny Neff will be going after the record of one of Ohio's Track and Field Legends.  Neff will look to win the 1600m by breaking Bob Kennedy's all time and state meet record of 4:05.13.  This is going to be a fast paced 1600m, we might just have to see who can hold on for the ride.

2. Boys Division 3  800m Run

Finals: 10:55am Saturday

Going off of Regional performances, all sixteen athletes are within 3.4 seconds of each other.  This is going to make for a tight and exciting race.  It very well could take a 1:55 or less to place in this race.  Last year's winner, Seth Butler of Findlay Liberty-Benton will be pushed by Eric Rupe of Maplewood and Michael Perisa of JFK, who have both ran in the 1:55's this year.  The big question will be who drops the 1600m to run a fresh 800m.

3. Boys Division 1 and 2  110m Hurdles

Prelims: D2 - 2:10pm, D1 - 5:25pm Friday
Finals: D2 - 1:05pm, D1 - 4:35pm Saturday

You have two of the nations fastest high hurdlers in these two races.  In Division 2, Ben Moody of Lakeview is tied for the eighth fastest time in the nation coming off of his regional final performance where he ran a blazing 13.83.  In Division 1, Dailyn Moore of Sandusky has the fastest time in the nation this year after running a super fast 13.44 at the Perkins Pirate Relays on May 7th.  Imagine what these two could do if they ran against each other.

4. Boys Division 1 800m Run

Finals: 5:55pm Saturday

When a 1:53.14 doesn't make it out of the regionals, you know that it is going to be a fast 800m at the state meet.  The field includes 14 of the fastest 15 Division 1 athletes, and eight members of the field have already run sub 1:54 this year, with  three of those eight having gone sub 1:52 at the Amherst Regional meet.  And you have to watch out for Neff, who doubled during the indoor championship with a 4:12 and then came back with a 1:53 in the 800m shortly after.  Could we see a possible sub 1:50?

5. Boys Division 1 200m Dash

Prelims: 7:05pm Friday
Finals: 6:05pm Saturday

This is a veritable Who's Who of the Division 1 Sprints in Ohio.  Big names abound in this 200m dash showdown, Hardnick, Heriot, Henry, House, Doermann, Mays, Bogle, Cochran, and Cunningham all would like to add state placer in the 200m dash to their running resumes.  Heiriot looks to defend his title, and if he has already captured the 100m and 400m titles, this will be the race to watch to see if he can sweep the sprints.
