Abby Steiner Named Ohio's Gatorade Player Of The Year

Abby Steiner / Dublin Coffman (University of Kentucky)

Abby Steiner has been named the recipient for Ohio's Track & Field Gatorade Player of the Year.  The recent Dublin Coffman graduate had a tremendous senior season that was highlighted by State Championship wins in the 100m and 200m events.  The times she recorded in the finals' (11.38 and 22.73) both represent OHSAA all-time records.  Steiner, who will compete for the University of Kentucky in track and soccer, is ranked second in the country in the 200 and in a tie for fifth in the 100.  Additionally, she finishes the year as the ninth ranked athlete on the MileSplit 50 subjective list.  Steiner previously won Ohio's Track & Field Gatorade Player of the Year award following her sophomore year.

MileSplit Ohio tracked down Abby to gather her thoughts on receiving this prestigious honor.

Being Gatorade Player of the Year is a very special honor.  Not only does it highlight athletic accomplishments, but it recognizes those in the community as well.  I think it's important to see how all of the athletes work hard on and off the track.  I'm truly honored to have been chosen for this award and it is a great way to end my high school career!
