St. Xavier Edges Mason In Team Competition At Moeller Invite


Two of the state's top cross country programs went head-to-head at Friday's Moeller 'Primetime' Invitational in Mason.  St. Xavier (Cincinnati), who entered the competition ranked fourth in the latest OATCCC Coaches Poll, earned the team victory by posting 35 points.  Trailing closely behind was the squad from Mason, who recorded a total of 38 points.  Mason was ranked second in Ohio prior to the onset of the meet.  

Each team had three athletes break 17 minutes.  St. Xavier teammates Joe Doogan and Matthew Hoak had a spirited battle to the line and they clocked almost identical results.  Doogan was declared the race winner in 16:29.70 while Hoak took runner-up honors in 16:29.80.  Junior, Thomas Walters was the next St. Xavier athlete in the individual standings.  He placed seventh due to his 16:57.40 effort.  

For Mason, Johan Meyer, Jagger Vetter and Isaiah Kelly all notched top 6 finishes.  Meyer led the way in third (16:31.90), Vetter was fourth (16:41.00) and Kelly went 16:54.90 for sixth place.
