Conant Smith entered Saturday's action at the Mason Invitational as the heavy pre-race favorite on paper and the senior ended up delivering in a big way on the wet, muddy course at Corwin M. Nixon Park.
Smith took a dominant win in the Varsity Section 1 race due to his time of 15:47.60. He finished just short of thirty seconds ahead of the runner-up. This marks his second win in as many outings in 2018. In his debut, the Middletown stand-out went 15:38.70 at the Bob Schul Invitational.
Smith, who's currently ranked fourth in the state, won the 2017 Mason Invite in 15:15.70 under much more negotiable racing conditions.
