Ashley Fischer crossed the finish line with a time of 14:48, but it wasn't enough as the Toledo women's cross country team claimed the top five spots en route to a 15 to 40 victory over Bowling Green Friday night at the Ottawa Park Golf Course.

Ari Fisher was the winner of the 4,040 meter race with a time of 14:01. Lindsay Toussant, Devyn Ramsay, Emma Kertesz, and Kristal Studer were the next four finishers for the Rockets.

Fischer, a junior, was the top placer for Bowling Green finishing in sixth place.

“She started out strong during her freshman year and had an injury during track that spring,” Bowling Green coach Cami Wells said. “Today was a big step to get her running confidently.

“She continued to move up during the middle of the race. I was pleased with her progress, she did a nice job.”

Carly Wells and Andrea Pereira de Almeida were the next to cross the line in 14:57 and 14:58 respectively.

Abby Koch crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 15:02.

The next three Falcon placers all finished within ten seconds of each other.

Autumn Dettman (15:19) was tenth, Heather Conger (15:20) was 11th and Megan Kelsey (15:28) was 13th.

Mindy Henry (15:51), Sally Kandie (15:59), Taylor Stichter (16:30) and Alixe Korsnack (16:52) all raced as well for the Orange and Brown.

Even though Toledo dominated at the top, Wells was still pleased with the effort of her runners.

“I'm not disappointed,” Wells said. “We looked a little tired, but they gave their best effort.

“They will recover from this and it will be good motivation for the future.”

The Falcons will host the Mel Brodt Invitation on Saturday, September 12. The women's race will start at 2 p.m.

“I would like to invite everybody out to watch on Saturday,” Wells said.
