JCU Women's Cross Country Wins Second Title This Fall With First Place Finish At Cathcart Invite

The depth of the John Carroll women's cross country team played out exactly as head coach Dara Ford envisioned, as seven runners in the top 18 ensured the Blue Streaks of a second title this fall by claiming first place at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.

Final Results

John Carroll scored 51 points to hold off Division II East Stroudsburg (59) by eight points, but with John Carroll's sixth and seventh runners placing 17th and 18th, Ford and her Blue Streaks had insurance on the Cathcart crown.

In the first 6,000-meter race of the 2009 season for the Blue Streaks, freshman Ashley Aberl (Toledo, OH, Notre Dame) was the class of the field. She claimed the first medalist honor of her collegiate career by crossing the finish line in 22:14, eight seconds ahead of East Stroudburg's Rose Mascoli (22:22) and nine ahead of Frostburg State's Anne Patron (22:23).

Emily Tillmaand (Xenia, OH, Xenia) (22:54) and Tricia Doherty (Chicago, IL, Marist)(22:58) were the race's 10th and 11th place finishers, respectively. Megan Lutz (23:38) was was the 14th place finisher, and Shannon Testa (Copley, OH, Copley) (23:45) was 15th to round out the scoring for the Blue Streaks.
 
Kelly Grieve (Toledo, OH, Sylvania Southview) (23:52) and Melissa Bresnahan (Cleveland, OH, St. Joseph Academy) (23:53) were the aforementioned 17th and 18th place finishers for the Blue Streaks.
