MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College track and field got it first taste of competition Saturday (Dec. 5) when the Pioneers opened their season by hosting a First Glimpse Meet at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The non-scoring meet featured portions of a variety of programs throughout the region and gave athletes an opportunity to gauge where they stand prior to taking an extended break for the holidays. [

Sophomore
Ashley Bault (Atwater, Waterloo) had Marietta's performance of the meet as she broke the school record in the women's triple jump. Bault improved each time she took a jump and capped off her third place finish with a leap of 10.79m (35-05.00). Melissa Schulte set the previous record with a jump of 10.36m (34-00.00) in March of 2007.
Three other Pioneers set personal records at the meet. Sophomore
Lauren Ashbury (White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., Greenbrier East) won the 55m dash with a personal best time of 7.66 seconds. Sophomore
Corryn Muench (Cold Spring, Ky., Newport Central Catholic) captured the 400m Dash after crossing the line in a personal record 1:00.48. Junior
Mehgan Cline (Dublin, Coffman) shaved of 30 seconds off her previous best performance in the 3,000m Run and covered the distance in 12:05.86.
Marietta also had four athletes besides Asbury and Muench win their respective events on Saturday. Sophomore
Danielle Staub (Boxford, Mass., Masconomet Regional) and sophomore
Josh Bibb (Marietta, Marietta) won the 800m Runs, while senior
Josh Mickle (Madison, Madison) and sophomore
Jennifer Emmert (Martinsburg, W.Va., Martinsburg )captured the 3,000m Runs.
The Pioneers return to action on Jan. 16 when Marietta hosts its second indoor meet of the season.
