Keesler breaks Pole Vault record at MC Open #1

Matt Hickman set a personal record in the 55m Dash
MARIETTA, Ohio — Sophomore Kim Keesler (Chagrin Falls, Chagrin Falls) broke her own school record in the Pole Vault to highlight her team's performance at the Marietta College Open #1 Saturday (Jan. 16) afternoon at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Keesler and the Pioneer women finished in second place after compiling 132 points, while the Marietat men took third place with 107 points. [Results]

Roanoke College captured the women's title with 150 points, while Concord College placed third among the 8 schools that competed with 117 points. Concord won the men's competition with 126 points, while Roanoke was second with 114 points.

Keesler, who already held Marietta's Pole Vault record after clearing 3.35m (10-11.75) a year ago, eclipsed that mark with a successful vault of 3.36m (11-00.25). He performance earned her first place on Saturday. Keesler went on to place third in the long jump with a top mark of 4.76m (15-07.50).

Sophomore Danielle Staub (Boxford, Mass., Masconomet Regional) set a personal record en route to a victory in the 800m Run. Staub crossed the line in 2:33.97.

Junior Matt Hickman (St. Mary's, W.Va., St. Mary's) also set a personal record on Saturday as he won his prelim in the 55m Dash with a time of 6.55 seconds. Hickman went on to place second in the event finals after crossing the line in 6.56 seconds.

Senior Derek Carpenter (Belpre, Belpre) and freshman Bryn Perkey (Middlebourne, W.Va., Tyler Consolidated) gave the Pioneers 2 more event champions on the day. Carpenter won the Shot Put with a top throw of 13.03m (42-09.00), while Perkey captured the 1,000m Run with a time of 2:56.93.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Jan. 23) afternoon when they host the Marietta Open #2, beginning at 11 a.m.
