DAY ONE RESULTS

HEPTATHLON RESULTS - DAY ONE

PENTATHLON RESULTS - FINAL

The first day of the 2010 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships is in the books, and it presented mixed results for the Falcons of Bowling Green State University.

The Orange and Brown were not able to secure any points in the day's five events that counted towards the team standings and thus stand in 11th place.  However, several season and personal bests were secured during the day's competition, and a Falcon runner won a preliminary heat in a track event.

Freshman Brooke McCombs made a personal best throw of 14.69 meters (48-02.50) in the weight throw event.  Teammate Ashley Harris finished in the top 15 of the same event, completing a throw of 15.88m (52-01.25).

Junior Brittani McNeal, competing in the long jump, had a season-best effort tonight with a jump of 5.52 meters (18-01.50).

Meanwhile, on the track side, sophomore Sally Kandie demolished her previous personal best time in the 5000 meter run.  Her time of 18:25.81 tonight was good for a top-20 finish in the event.

Also, the distance medley relay team of Barbara Powers, Heather Conger, Saisha Gailliard and Autumn Dettmann completed their run tonight in 12:12.44.  This time represents the best run for a Falcon DMR team since the 2007-2008 indoor season.

The top performer of the day was freshman Jeanette Pettigrew.  Pettigrew qualified for tomorrow's 60 meter dash final by winning the fourth heat of today's preliminary round.  Pettigrew registered a time of 7.65 seconds in her run.

Including Pettigrew's run in the 60m Dash final, the Falcons will have eight opportunities to score points for the team standings in tomorrow's final day of the championships.  There are four more field events to go, while track events for tomorrow include the mile run, the 4x400m relay, and the 3000 meter run.

You can follow all of tomorrow's action live at the website for the MAC Championships

Also remember that a point in the Centennial Cup standings is on the line; the Cup is an all-sports competition between BGSU and Kent State.  A point will be awarded to the team who finishes higher in the team standings after tomorrow's events.  Currently, the Cup standings are tied at 4.5-4.5.
