John Carroll Men's Track & Field Team Cashes In For Second Place At OAC Split Meet

With nearly its full arsenal of point scorers in tow, the John Carroll men's track and field team cashed in for a second place finish at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Gold Meet Saturday at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. 

Results 

Mount Union claimed the team title with 144 points. John Carroll (118 points) held off host Marietta (107) for second place. Baldwin-Wallace (105) and Muskingum (97) rounded out the field of five schools from the eastern half of the state of Ohio. 

John Carroll had five champions, including a pair of 1-2 finishes, in the all day meet staged at Marietta College's Don Drumm Stadium. 

One of John Carroll's first place finishes occurred in the 4 x 400 relay. The foursome of Bill Zaccardelli (Parma, OH, St. Ignatius), David Hickey (Stow, OH, Akron St. Vincent - St. Mary), Anthony Colbert (Cleveland, OH, Jane Addams) and Tony Mihalich (Lewiston, NY, Buffalo St. Joseph's Collegiate) won the event in a time of 3:24.13. 

The 1-2 finishes took place in the 110-meter hurdles and the High Jump. In the track race, Dennis Love (Bedford, OH, St. Peter Chanel) placed first (16.34) and Michael Hlatky (Brooklyn Heights, OH, Cleveland St. Ignatius) was second (16.67). Hlatky grabbed first in the high jump (1.84 meters / 6-00 1/4) and Hickey was second (1.79 meters / 5-10 1/2). 

Hickey also turned in a top finish in the 400-meter hurdles, claiming first in a time of 56.19. Hlatky's other point-scoring performance took place in the long jump, where he finished sixth (6.05 meters / 19-10 1/4).
Mike Minjock (Seven Hills, OH, St. Ignatius)was an event champion in the long jump, clearing a season-best distance of 6.72 meters (22-00 3/4). 

In addition to Hickey, the other three members of the champion 4 x 400 relay also scored in other events. Zaccardelli placed second in the 200-meter dash (22.71) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.06). Tony Mihalich was third in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 50.64. 

In the 800-meter run, Colbert was third in 2:01.04, while teammate Aaron Sharp was fifth in 2:01.72. 

Other point scorers were Jacob Smith (Canfiield, OH, Canfield)(5th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 10:24.12), Jeffrey Sigmund (Streetsboro, OH, Streetsboro) (6th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 10:33.59), Bryan Wideman (4th in the long jump, 6.29 meters / 20-07 3/4), Stephen Kedzuf (Plymouth, MN, Benilde St. Margaret's)(3rd in the triple jump, 11.94 meters / 39-02 1/4), and Matt Nadjovski (5th in the javelin, 51.31 meters / 168-04).
