TOLEDO, OH - After a successful weekend at the Penn and Hillsdale Relays,
the Toledo
track and field team returns to action Thursday and Friday, hosting the 26th
Annual Toledo Invitational at the UT Varsity Track.
As of Wednesday morning, 23 women's teams and 21 men's teams
were slated to compete at the two-day event, the second home meet of the season
at the refurbished track.
At last week's world-renowned Penn Relays, UT notched
several top performances, highlighted by a school-record in the 4x200 relay and
a third-place effort from Alexandra Afloari in the triple jump.
The relay team, comprised of Kimara Morgan, Sarah Woodrum,
Danielle Jacoby and Amanda Kaverman, broke the program's 10-year old mark with
their time of 1:39.76. Meanwhile, Afloari's jump of 40-06.00 was the
second-best in both school annals and in the MAC this spring.
Other noteworthy performances included Ari Fisher placing
12th in the 3000-meter run, crossing the line in 9:51.96, which is tops in the
MAC and fourth-best in school history. Audra Brown took 17th in the 10K with
her time of 36:18.89, which is the fourth-best in the conference and 11th-best
in UT history. In the steeplechase, Dagna Sztykiel finished with the
third-fastest MAC mark (10:47.86) in 2010.
At Hillsdale, Devyn Ramsay ran the eighth-best time in the
5000 this spring in the MAC, as she finished with a time of 17:39.80.
Toledo
also continues to have some of the top times in the conference, established at
meets earlier in the spring. Kaverman is fourth in the 200 (24.28) and 10th in
the 100 (12.01). Brown is sixth in the 3000 (10:28.40), just ahead of Lindsay Toussant (eighth, 10:30.80).
In addition to Sztykiel in the steeplechase, Emma Kertesz (fifth,
11:07.33), Amber Cushnie (eighth, 11:24.87) and Hannah Evans (10th, 11:29.19) are
in the MAC's top-10.
In the field events, Julie Snyder sits second in the
conference with her high jump of 5-07.25, while Michelle Sutherland is also in
the top-10 (5-06). Kiah Douglas is second in the long jump (19-08.00), and
Yuhong Fu (38-04.00) and Jaime Gittens (37-11.50) are eight-nine in the triple
jump.
At last year's Toledo Invitational, Kaverman
highlighted the Rockets' efforts as she won the 200 meter dash (24.91) and she
took third in the 100.
