Three Victories Highlight Track's Performance at Tune-Up

TOLEDO, OH - Toledo's track and field team concluded its final competition prior to the conference championships with three victories and 13 top-five efforts at the First Annual Toledo Tune-Up at the UT Varsity Track on Friday.

Overcast and rainy skies cleared to sunshine as the day wore on. Dagna Sztykiel had the first top finish for UT, as she crossed the line in a time of 4:38.07 in the 1500 meter run, which is a personal-best and 11th on the school's all-time list. Devyn Ramsay, meanwhile, finished fourth with her time of 4:48.05 in her first effort this season in the event.

The Rockets went one-two in the triple jump, as Yuhong Fu edged out Jaime Gittens for the top honors. Fu recorded a distance of 38-10.50, followed by Gittens at 36-09.50. Fu's mark is ninth on UT's all-time list.

Michelle Sutherland won the high jump for a second-consecutive week, reaching a height of 5-05.00

Danielle Jacoby was the runner-up in the 400 with a time of 57.65, her first time under 58 seconds this spring. The junior also placed third in the javelin throw with a toss of 116-11, her second-best effort of the spring.  

In the long jump, Kiah Douglas was the runner-up with her mark of 18-08.50, with Katie Bollin finishing fifth (18-03.00). Julie Snyder also took second in the 100 hurdles with her season-best time of 14.54, less than two-tenths of a second out of first place.

Kimara Morgan finished second in the 100 dash with her time of 12.39, a season-best. Morgan also took second in the 200 with her time of 25.07, and Antalesha Ballard had a third-place effort in the 400 hurdles with her time of 1:06.16, also a season-best.

The Rockets return to action next week at the 2010 MAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by the University at Buffalo.  The competition begins at 10 a.m. Thursday and runs through Saturday evening.
