Two Falcon athletes qualified for Saturday championship events and another scored points as Bowling Green State University's track and field team finished day two of the 2010 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in tenth place.

Junior Barbara Powers helped the Orange and Brown end their four-way tie from Thursday's action by scoring three points in the 3000 meter steeplechase.  Powers completed the race in 11:02.30 and finished sixth.  The time was a career-best for Powers in the event.

The other track events held Friday were preliminary runs to set the fields for Saturday's championship events.

In the 800 meters, junior Heather Conger finished second in her heat with a time of 2:15.22.  This placed Conger sixth and allows her to compete for the MAC championship in the 800 meters on Saturday.  Sophomore Saisha Gaillard (2:21.58) and freshman Mindy Henry (2:25.00) also competed in the race.

Autumn Dettmann, a junior from Watertown, Wisc., also qualified for a chance at a MAC championship on Saturday.  Dettmann ran the 1500 meters in 4:41.63.  The time was 11th in the event, but each of the top 11 finished within five seconds of each other.

In other races, Jeanette Pettigrew set personal-bests in the 100- and 200-meter dash at her first MAC Championships.  Pettigrew came within five one-hundredths of a second of qualifying for the finals in the 100 meters, as she raced to the finish in 11.92 seconds.  The season-best time placed tenth.

Pettigrew finished 12th in the 200 meters and came within four-tenths of a second of advancing to the finals in that race.  Again, Pettigrew set a season-best time, completing the distance in just 24.84 seconds.

Freshman Jessica Grant also set a season-best time in the 100 meters by posting a mark of 12.25 seconds, while junior Brittani McNeal earned a career-best time of 24.91 seconds in the 200 meters.  McNeal placed 13th, just behind Pettigrew.

The other top-15 finish of the day from the Falcons came in the shot put, as sophomore Ashley Harris completed a toss of 41-01.75 (12.54m).  Brooke McCombs, a freshman, earned 18th place by posting a distance of 38-03.25 (11.66m).

Bowling Green's three points position the Falcons in tenth place going into the final day of competition.  In all, fourteen championships will be decided on Saturday, and BGSU will compete in eight of those 14 events as the Falcons fight to improve their team standing.

Kent State leads all teams with 54 points.  Meet host Buffalo is second with 41 points, while Akron follows closely with 40.  Ball State is nine points ahead of BGSU in ninth place, while the Falcons lead Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan in the standings.

Saturday's schedule with BGSU participants is noted below.  For a complete schedule of events and links to live scoring and live video streaming, please visit the MAC Championships website which is linked at the top of this page.
