DARKE COUNTY — As the spring sports season begins to wind down, local athletes are hitting their stride, and standouts are beginning to emerge.

During the 2010 track season, many athletes have been showing their strengths since the beginning and continue to improve with each passing day.

This year's Daily Advocate Track Athletes of the Year are no exception.

One is a distance runner, competing in his senior year for Tri-Village, while the other is making her mark for Greenville as a junior.

Both have been team leaders throughout the year and do their best in each event for the good of their teams.

That is why Lady Wave thrower Jena Studabaker and Patriot runner Perry Fraylick have been chosen as the best in the county for 2010.

Studabaker has been consistently putting up big numbers in the girls discus and shot put events for Greenville. In the recent Stillwater Invitational held at Versailles, she was the winner of the shot put event with a throw of 35 feet 5.25 inches, beating the second place competitor by more than 2.5 feet.

Fraylick, who has been competing in, and winning, long distance events all season has been leading the way for the Patriot boys track team.

At the Stillwater Invite, he won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:49.61, winning the event by nearly a straightaway.

In addition to dominating individual events, Fraylick has been a vital member of the 4x800 relay team, helping Tri-Village to wins in that event.

Fraylick has been a standout cross country runner for the Patriots as well. He has signed with the Bowling Green State University to run as a member of their cross country program beginning this fall.

Studabaker and Fraylick, as well as all athletes who have earned weekly honors throughout the 2009-10 sports year, will be invited to attend The Daily Advocate's Darke County Elite Athlete Banquet held at Romer's Catering hall in Greenville. The event is set to take place on May 23.
