The Bowling Green State University men's cross country team competed at the 56th annual All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship meet on Friday (Oct. 1).

Held at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio and hosted by Cedarville University, the Championship was divided into two races.

The championship race included each team's top seven runners.  Team scoring was kept for the event, which included 37 teams from Division I, II and III of the NCAA, as well as from the NAIA.  In the open race, no team scoring was kept.  The distance for the runners totaled 8K in each event.

In the championship event, the Falcons placed 13th overall out of the 37 teams and ranked eighth among the NCAA Division I schools.

Senior Chris Moody was once again the Falcons' top finisher.  Crossing the finish line in 25:43.2, Moody placed 45th overall (30th in D-I).  Sophomore Jason Salyer completed his 8K just two seconds later, placing 48th overall (32nd in D-I) with a time of 25:45.4.

Rob Kelvey and Jesse Smuda also finished in the top half of the overall field, as well as in the top 50 of the Division I group.  Kelvey posted a season-best time of 26:16.7, while Smuda produced a career-best 8K run, finishing in just 26:34.8.

Likewise, sophomore Josh Franek ran a season-best 27:08.2 in today's 8K.

Freshmen Greg Black (26:50.2) and Luke Zerkle (27:56.2) also ran in the championship race for BGSU.

Six different members of the Orange and Brown contingent competed in the day's open event.

Brian Ferber, also a freshman, led the Bowling Green runners and completed the 8K in a season-best time of 28:07.3, while senior Abraham Busienei finished just seconds behind Ferber, registering a time of 28:20.9 in the event.

Perry Fraylick improved his time from the Spartan Invitational, finishing in 28:23.9, just 11 seconds ahead of senior Jeff Ehler.

Falcon newcomers Joe VanBolderen (28:43.8) and Ian Zimmermann (29:10.9) also competed in the race.  VanBolderen eclipsed his previous best time in the 8K this season by 50 seconds, while Zimmermann improved his time from the last race at the Spartan Invite.

The team now has two weeks to prepare for their last home meet of the season, the Falcon Invitational, which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 16th.
