BGSU Cross Country Hosts Falcon Invitational on Saturday

Fri, Oct, 15 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country

The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams host their final home meet of the 2010 season on Saturday (Oct. 16) when nearly two dozen area schools invade BGSU for the 2010 Falcon Invitational.

The women's 6K race begins at 10:45 a.m., followed at 11:30 a.m. by the 8K men's race.  Complete rosters and maps for both races can be found at the Falcon Invite Program/Course Map link on the sidebar of this page.

Several seniors on both teams will be competing in the final home meet of their Falcon careers.  Among the graduating men is Chris Moody, who has been the Falcons' top finisher in every race since the beginning of his sophomore campaign.

On the women's team, six different Falcons will run at the Forest Creason course for the final time, including Autumn Dettmann and Courtney Krummert, who each set personal best times in their most recent 6K race.

"The seniors on the team have done a great job over the past four years, working day in and day out to get the most they can from their ability during their time here at BG," said head coach Cami Paulson.  "They have been our leaders and the backbone of the team.  I am extremely proud of each of them and the commitment and dedication they have shown throughout the careers."

Of course, plenty of youth resides on Bowling Green's rosters.  Eight of the 13 men who will run tomorrow are winding down their first or second seasons as a Falcon, including Jason Salyer, who has consistently been on Moody's heels this season.

Meanwhile, half of the tomorrow's starting slate of 12 women are freshmen or sophomores.  Abby Koch, who owns an individual victory at BGSU's previous home meet, is among that group.  Last month, Koch produced one of the best 6K times in BGSU history at the Spartan Invitational.

Regarding the growth of the team, Paulson remarked, "I have seen great things from all the athletes on the team; with the younger runners, I have seen them gain more confidence and strength throughout the season.  I look forward to seeing them finish their seasons off strong and then building on this season for the future."

The Falcon Invitational will be Bowling Green's final chance to prepare for the MAC Championships through actual competition.  The championship meet takes place two weeks from now in Kalamazoo, Mich., hosted by Western Michigan.

"The goal at all times is to give the best effort possible every day to get the most we can from each experience and to use the training all season to be at our best at the end of the season," Paulson said.  "We will use the meet tomorrow to continue to work on being strong and consistent and aggressive throughout to have the best overall team effort possible heading into the MAC meet."

Complete results and a full recap of the day's events will be posted to BGSUFalcons.com shortly after the conclustion of the meet.
