In their last tune-up before the Mid-American Conference championship meet, the Bowling Green State University women's cross country team set numerous personal records and placed fourth overall at the 2010 Falcon Invitational.

The Falcons finished second among the eight NCAA Division I teams pariticpating in the meet held on Saturday (Oct. 16) at the Forest Creason golf course adjacent to Perry Stadium.

"I saw many positive things today and some great races by many of the athletes, but we had our sights set on the team title," head coach Cami Paulson said.  "You can never be disappointed when you have so many positives to focus on, but we left the meet knowing we have more as a team with each woman running to her full ability on the same day.  That is the driving force for the MAC meet."

Paulson added, "The team has been great to work with all season long.  They have worked hard, have given their all, and are focused on the team outcome.  What more can I ask for as a coach than hard working, positive student athletes?  I just want to see them get all they can out of the end of this season and truly show what they are capable of doing with each person at her best."

Twelve runners participated for Bowling Green in today's 6K race, and ten of them set personal best times.  The team placed seven runners in the top 50, and six completed the distance in less than 23 minutes.

Sophomore Abby Koch, after running one of the 20 best 6K races in BGSU history at the Spartan Invite, beat that time by nearly 20 seconds and finished in just 22:03.3 today.  She placed third overall and first among all Division I runners.

Seniors Barbara Powers and Autumn Dettman, each in their final home races as Falcons, set personal best times and placed in the top 30.  Powers completed the race in 22:23.5 for 12th place, while Dettmann finished 28th in 22:49.5.

Fellow senior Heather Conger placed 21st in 22:43.3, approaching her personal best time in the 6K, which she set in last year's Falcon Invite as she helped the Falcons to a meet victory.

Megan Kelsey and Courtney Krummert both also registered personal best times in their final run at Forest Creason.  Kelsey placed 34th in 22:56.0, while Krummert ran the 6K in 23:13.4.

Tara Weiss also earned a top-50 finish out of a field of 177 runners, as she finished in 22:50.3 for 30th place.

Katie Borgelt, Sally Kandie, Taylor Stichter, Caitlin Flack and Ashley Burns also ran on Saturday for the Orange and Brown.

"Today, we had strong competition, great weather, and a fast course.  We were running at home and had great conditions to achieve great results.  Abby's time now ranks her eighth all-time in BGSU history.  She ran a very strong race, and I am so proud of her for bouncing back after the All-Ohio meet," said Paulson.  "Barbara Powers time now ranks 17th all-time.  She ran a consistently strong race, and I am so pleased for her to have the personal record she was working toward for so long and to be able to do it at home to finish out her home meet career."

Paulson continued, "Heather's time is 27th all-time and was her second best 6K ever.  For Tara Weiss, Megan Kelsey and Courtney Krummert, it was the best cross country race I have seen them run during their careers here at BG, and it was great to see them race the way they did in their final home meet.  I am really proud of the team and the effort they put forward."

Bowling Green now takes two weeks off to prepare for the 2010 MAC Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. on October 30th.
