Men's Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors

Thu, Feb, 17 | Men's Cross Country

On Thursday (Feb. 17), the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) named Bowling Green State University men's cross country as an All-Academic team for their efforts during the 2010 season.

Cami Paulson, who completed her ninth season as men's cross country head coach in 2010, believes strongly in emphasizing a combination of excellence as students and athletes.

The All-Academic designation is the first that the team has received since the 2001-2002 season, and Paulson views it as a culmination of hard work by all of the athletes and as a building block to greater things in the future.

“The men on this team have worked very hard to put themselves in a position to earn All-Academic Team status. Earning this award was one of the team goals for the season,” Paulson said. “I am very proud of the academic accomplishments of the men in the program and their continued progress both in the classroom and in competition. The goal for the future will be to continue to raise the team GPA, as well as competitive expectations.”

The Falcons' cumulative grade point average of 3.10 ranks fifth in the Mid-American Conference. A total of nine MAC schools sponsor men's cross country, and seven earned All-Academic status. BGSU's team GPA ranked above those of both Akron and Buffalo.

To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, a team must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above and must start at least five athletes in the team's respective NCAA regional meet. For the 2010 season, the USTFCCCA honored a total of 152 teams.
