MEET RESULTS (.htm)

The Bowling Green State University track and field team earned wins in nine of 19 individual events and scored points in 16 on Saturday (April 9), leading to a dominating victory at the 2011 Ohio Team Challenge.

The Falcons scored 194 points over the meet's entire 19-event schedule. That total surpassed second-place Toledo (138) by 56 points. Ohio finished third, with 135 points. Marshall ended the day in a distant fourth place (63 points). Tiffin University scored in one event and finished with six points.

This result represents an important turnaround for Bowling Green; the Falcons finished fourth in this event in 2010. Their 145 points last year were 32 behind Toledo and 74 fewer than Ohio.

Over the course of Saturday's meet, nearly two dozen personal records were set. In the hammer throw, sophomore Jessie Rowland continues to move up the all-time school record list. After a throw of 56.10 meters today, she now ranks fourth in school history. Rowland's toss won the event and earned ten points for the Falcons.

Rowland secured 29 points for the Orange and Brown during her four events. She brought home a second event victory in the discus after another personal-record toss of 44.06 meters. Rowland finished second in the shot put, posting a mark of 13.33. She completed her day with a sixth-place finish in the javelin (32.64 meters).

Ashley Harris scored 18 points and earned an event win of her own during the throwing events. She won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 14.52 meters (47-7.75), then placed fourth in both the discus (38.04) and hammer throw (46.73). The hammer throw mark set another personal record.

Other members of the throwing team also contributed points. Brooke Pleger, who became a Junior National qualifier last week, finished second and earned eight points in the hammer throw. Paige Lane and Brittany Hodges each secured fifth-place finishes. Lane competed in the discus, while Hodges posted her points in the shot put.

In other field events, Tatijana Jacobson yet again won the high jump. Her best leap of the day was 1.67 meters, just shy of the MAC-leading mark she set last week. Her closest competitor was a tenth of a meter short of Jacobson's distance.

Janelle Campbell finished third in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 10.69 meters. She also competed in the long jump, where she placed fifth. Campbell scored in both events to total eight points for the Falcons.

Rachael Doughty also scored in the long jump for the Falcons. Her 5.26-meter leap secured fourth place and four points. Darlene Anderson (5.04) and Tatijana Jacobson (4.60) also competed in the event.

In track events, Jeanette Pettigrew swept the three races in which she competed. Pettigrew improved upon her time from last weekend's meet in Toledo to post an 11.98-second mark in the 100 meter dash. It ranks as the second-best time in the MAC this season. Pettigrew then won the 200 meter dash in 25.44 seconds, with her nearest non-Falcon competitor over a half-second behind her.

To round out her day, Pettigrew joined Felicia Jefferson, Allorian Horne and Erika Schmidt to win the 4x100 meter relay. They completed the run in 47.83 seconds, defeating the Marshall team by over one second.

Four personal records were set in each of the 800- and 1500-meter races. Heather Conger headlined that group when she took top honors in the 800 meters. Conger's personal-best time of 2:12.99 won the race by nearly two seconds. Autumn Dettmann, Abby Koch and Caitlin Flack also set personal bests in the race.

Dettmann and Koch also raced in the 1500 meters. Dettmann won the race in 4:39.17, while Koch was one of four BGSU runners to set personal records in the race. Barbara Powers, Megan Kelsey and Courtney Krummert joined Koch in the record-setting fun.

Rachael Doughty was the top Bowling Green finisher in the hurdles events. She placed second in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the finish in 15 seconds flat. Barbara Powers posted a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Falcons in that race; her time of 1:10.95 was a personal best.

The BGSU track and field team now turns their attention to the All-Ohio Championships, which take place in Cincinnati, Ohio next Friday and Saturday (April 15-16).
