BGSU Runners Compete At All-Ohio Championships

Several members of the Bowling Green State University men's cross country team traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday and Saturday (April 15-16) to compete in the 2011 All-Ohio Outdoor Championships.

The runners competed in four events – the 800, 1500, and 5000 meter runs, as well as the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Peter Miles and Kyle Grassel led the three Falcons competing in the 800 meters. Miles crossed the finish in 2:00.34, and Grassel trailed him by only a half-second (2:00.87). Ian Zimmerman completed his run five seconds later, in 2:05.48.

Miles also ran in the 1500 meter event; he again led the Falcon contingent. Miles placed 14th overall as he earned a 4:10.44 mark. Luke Zerkle (4:16.56) and Joe van Bolderen (4:48.75) also competed in the race.

Josh Franek took part in the 3000 meter steeplechase. He finished 15th overall after a run that lasted 10:13.78.

In the 5000 meters, Jason Salyer earned BGSU's best finish of the weekend, taking ninth place thanks to his 15:10:15 run. Ryan Harrison completed the 5K in 15:47.51. Greg Black and Jesse Smuda also took part in the race; Black's time was 16:05.72, while Smuda registered a mark of 16:33.64.
