Thw Bowling Green State University track and field team continued their preparation for the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships this weekend at the Eastern Michigan Twilight meet by securing nearly two dozen top-ten finishes and two event victories.

Thirteen of those top tens occurred on Saturday (April 23) at EMU's Old/Marshall Track. The best of those, by place, were three different third-place results.

In the long jump, Tatijana Jacobson earned third place with a leap of 1.68 meters (5-06.00). The mark was just shy of her season-best 1.70 meter jump.

The 4x100 relay team also finished third. The team of Felicia Jefferson, Jeanette Pettigrew, Allorian Horne and Erika Schmidt completed the distance in 47.42 seconds.

The Falcons' other third-place result took place courtesy of the BGSU throwing team. Jessie Rowland earned the distinction with a 35.41 meter (116-02) toss in the javelin throw. She also brought home a fifth-place finish in the discus throw, as she posted a toss of 44.35 meters (145-06).

Two other top tens were achieved in the javelin and discus competitions. Paige Lane earned fifth place in the javelin with a 32.05 meter throw, while Ashley Harris' 39.95 meter toss secured eight place in the discus.

In other field event action, Darlene Anderson used a 5.11-meter jump to place tenth in the long jump, while Christina Gagliardo finished 13th with a ten-foot mark in the pole vault – a competition that had to be moved indoors due to poor weather conditions.

Jeanette Pettigrew earned the Orange and Brown's best individual track finish on Saturday. Pettigrew ran the sprint in 12.20 seconds for a fifth-place result.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Rachael Doughty crossed the finish line in 14.96 seconds and eighth place.

Allorian Horne and Felicia Jefferson were the top Falcon runners in the day's two other sprints. Horne ran the 200 meters in 24.89 seconds (tenth place), while Jefferson posted a sub-one-minute time (0:59.66) in the 400 meter dash.

Jefferson also helped the 4x400 relay team finish sixth; she ran the final leg and completed the race in 3:55.13. She was joined by Saisha Gailliard, Heather Conger and Allison Weimer.

Sally Kandie and Carly Wells earned the final top-ten results of the day for Bowling Green. Kandie crossed the finish line in eighth place during the 3000 meter run, as she posted a time of 11:02.22. Wells led a group of eight Falcons in the 800 meter run; her mark (2:17.31) earned seventh place. She was followed closely by Saisha Gailliard (2:19.38).

Bowling Green's next competition takes place next weekend at multiple events. The weekend is highlighted by a trip to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays. More information will be available later this week on BGSUFalcons.com.
