Falcons Break Another Record On Final Day Of Drake Relays

Sat, Apr, 30 | Women's Track and Field

The Bowling Green State University track and field team completed their weekend at the 102nd Drake Relays with three primary events on Saturday (April 30), highlighted by a record-breaking run in the sprint medley relay.

The previous Falcon record in the event, which combines 400-meter, two 200-meter and an 800-meter legs, was set in 2002 and stood at 4:01.70 until today.

In today's race, Allorian Horne joined Jeanette Pettigrew, Allison Weimer and Heather Conger in the first of three sections. The Falcons won their section, defeating host Drake University by less than two-tenths of a second. Bowling Green completed the 1600 meters in 3:57.85 as opposed to Drake's 3:58.01, and the mark eclipsed the old record by nearly four seconds.

Conger ran the anchor leg of the relay and finished it in 2:10.70 – which would represent her career-best time in the 800 meters.

Also on Saturday morning, Nicole Farr and Barbara Powers ran in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Farr crossed the finish line in 10:54.02, while Powers' time was 11:02.44.

Bowling Green's other competitor at the Des Moines, Iowa meet was Jessie Rowland in the hammer throw. Rowland, who had competed on Friday at Ashland University in Ohio, finished 13th overall after an opening toss of 56.19 meters (184-04).

At Ashland, Rowland participated in the elite section of the hammer throw. She finished fourth amongst university competitors, posting a throw of 57.14 meters (187-06).

Rowland was joined at Ashland by Ashley Harris, Brooke Pleger and Paige Lane. Harris and Pleger competed in the primary hammer throw event, then each stayed for further throwing competition on Saturday.

In the hammer throw event, Harris posted a 45.29 meter toss for a 20th place finish. On Saturday, Harris placed seventh in the shot put with a 14.06-meter (46-01.50) throw. Later, she completed a 41.37-meter (135-09) throw in the discus. Pleger joined Harris in the discus event, and her best mark was 32.06 meters.

Paige Lane completed the Ashland events for the Falcons with a 13th-place finish in the javelin throw. Lane's best throw, the last of her three, traveled 30.63 meters (100-06).

Bowling Green's final competition prior to Mid-American Conference championship meet will take place next weekend. More information about next weekend's events will be available later this week at BGSUFalcons.com.
