Ohioans hope to state their Olympic case at U.S. track trials in Oregon

 

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The stage was set for Bridget Franek.

The Hiram native and Oregon transplant had every reason to believe she would make her new fans and friends in Eugene leap with joy earlier this month. She was among the favorites when she stepped on the historic Hayward Field track for the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the meet named for the town's favorite son, the (Steve) Prefontaine Classic.
