Tippecanoe senior, Sam Wharton, has decided to take his academic and athleitc talents to "The Farm" and become a Stanford Cardinal. Wharton had a stunning senior cross country season in which he won both the OHSAA Division 1 State Championship and the Nike Cross Nationals Championship, while finishing 6th at Foot Locker Nationals. Wharton also finished second at the 2012 OHSAA Division 1 Track and Field Championship in the 3200m with a personal best time of 9:01.24.
Wharton's best 5K Cross Country time of 14:56, set at the Foot Locker Midwest Meet, lead the state of Ohio, as well as ranked him 16th in nation over a 5K course. Wharton's best time on the track in the 5K comes in at 14:46 from the 2012 New Balance Outdoor Nationals, where he finished fifth, and is the third best returning time in the nation. Wharton owns the fastest returning time in Ohio in the 3200m run, and his time of 9:01.24 is also the 14th best returning time in the nation for that event.
