Ohio Boys that are ranked in the top 100 nationally as of 4/19/09.  Ohio is well represented in the high jump and both the shot in discus.  Justin Welch is the current leader in the Hammer Throw, and Shawn Roberts has the second fastest time in the 2000m steeplechase in the nation.  Danny Neff has the 4th best time in the Mile/1600 and Erik Kynard has the 4th best High Jump

Anchored by Amanda Winslow, the Collins Hill girls of Georgia became the first team under 12 minutes this outdoor season in the distance medley relay with their 11:59.44 victory on Saturday evening at the Volunteer Track Classic held in Knoxville, Tennessee. Another US top 5 performance came from the boys 2000 meter steeplechase winner Shawn Roberts of Centreville (OH) at a US #2 time of 6:14.74. Sometimes when things go well, they go VERY well.  That was the case last spring when the Centerville Track and Field athletes sponsored the first Race2Read.  The Race2Read is a friendly competition between the Centerville Track teams and the Wayne High School Track teams to collect books for the patients at Children’s Medical Center.  The teams set a goal last year to collect 1,000 books.  But in the end, they took 2,862 books to Children’s Medical Center.  Is there any way to top that?  

Fast times, new state leaders and US top 10 performances were all over the Ohio High School Indoor Track and Field scene this past weekend.  Ohio State, Akron, Findlay and Marietta all provided exciting meets and terrific marks for this early in the season.

Morgan finishes 4th at Great American; Mason Boys finish 3rd in Greater Miami Conference; Roys Runs 15:12.02 in the Valley Division race of the Northeast Ohio Conference.  The most Comprehensive list of Ohio Cross Country League/Conference Championships can be found inside

Zach Wills ran an amzing race today, and had a shot at going sub 15:00, but had to settle for an impressive 15:02.36 and a new course record.  Wills had formidable competition in the Race of Champions as it included Kevin Yarnell, Travis Hawes, Yoshi Shimizu, Tsehaye Hiluf, and Eric Schmidt

The Midwest Meet of Champions showcases many of the top teams and individuals in Ohio and is the premier cross country meet in the Midwest. Inside you will find a meet preview, Girls and Boys Virtual Meets and a copy of the course map.

The All Ohio Catholic Championship provided for some great feats in the Championship Races.  Magnificat posted a perfect 15 team score, while Kevin Yarnell (pictured left, from St. Johns Jesuit) and Marty Coolidge (pictured next to Yarnell, from Elyria Catholic) provided excitement in the boys race as both boys ran 15:17, with Yarnell just edging out Coolidge at the line.

The results keep flying in and the final tallies are showing some interesting stories across the nation. Top teams and individuals from coast to coast had much to prove this weekend, as the national level competitions really took off. Individuals like Solomon Haile and Jillian Smith showed their talents at the highest levels, while Saratoga Springs and North Central proved why they are two of the top teams in the country. Trying to figure out who is the best team is nearly impossible without running any races, but OHRunners has tried to do just that (solely based on last year's results and returning runners). Over the next few days we will take a look at the top returning teams for both genders in all divisions. Today we take a stab at the Preseason Division 1 Top 10 Boys Teams.

While the national post season track and field meets are winding down, one can only wonder what will happen next year during the Cross Country season. It was the first busy weekend for Ohio Indoor Track and Field with seven different meets taking to the track to heat up the competition for qualifying to the state meet. Many great performances were ran, jump and thrown this weekend. Click on the title to read about each meet.

(U.S. #6 Westfield (IN) Heading to NTN Midwest) The first set of NTN Regionals takes place this weekend.  In the Midwest, while five states represent the region, only three states are allowed to travel to Terre Haute, Indiana for the meet.  Illinois, Indiana and Ohio are the three states and each looks to qualify at least one team to Portland.

The Midwest Meet of Champions, one of the more elite meets in the state of Ohio, will be held Saturday September 8th in Hilliard, Ohio.  Read the press release to see which good teams and great individuals will be running at the Midwest Meet of Champions
