In its 26th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, today announced Michelle Thomas of Glen Este High School as its 2010-11 Gatorade Ohio Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year. Thomas is the first Gatorade Ohio Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year to be chosen from Glen Este High School.

The 10th release of the MileSplit XC Super 50 rankings comes amidst the thick of the post-season. The NXN Nationals are held this weekend in Portland, Oregon and the Foot Locker West Championships are held in Walnut, California. The following weekend in San Diego the best individual harriers take to the historic stage of the Foot Locker National Championships to crown a new girls and boys champion. We are getting ever closer to seeing who the best harriers truly are, the only way possible, through head-to-head racing!

What a week for prep cross country! The top-10 boys are super-tight and should make the end of the season very interesting. A shake-up at the top occurred with Lukas Verzbicas taking the #1 spot with an impressive run at the IL state meet. Lukas blasted a solo-13:54 3 mile run to come a mere 4 seconds from breaking Craig Virgin's state record mark of 13:50. Lukas is clearly in the best shape of his life heading into the most important part of the season.

"Wills Captures #3", "Brajdic Sets New Boys Course Record", "Peninsula Woodridge Wins its Fifth Straight D2 Team Title", "Berger Repeats as D3 Girl's Champion", "Minster Wins its Third-Straight D3 Title", "Magnificat Girls' Win Third-Straight D1 Championship", Independence Repeats as boys D3 Champions" It would be difficult to choose a headline for yesterdays 2010 State Cross Country Championships. It was a day when a crowd of over 13,000 came to watch five of the six team state champions repeat, an individual win his third state championship and see a 23 year old course record broken.

Hannah Neczypor (left) and Michelle Thomas (right) have had very similar seasons the last three years with mere seconds separating the two runners. The similarities of these two ladies could make for a very interesting finish come Novermber at Scioto Downs.

It was a big day at the University of Kentucky’s Nutter Fieldhouse and it had nothing to do with the ‘Cats match-up against Vanderbilt. Track and field was the main focus in this impressive facility and the results of todays meet showed why some of the best athletes in the country continue to come back to this meet.

For the girls Magnificat, running as Rocky River XC Club, finished fifth overall, with Madeline Chambers taking 8th indvidually. North Royalton's Hannah Neczypor finished 11th overall and on the boys side, Zach Wills of Mason finished 5th overall.

Ohio dominates the NXN Midwest Regional Championship by going 1 through 3 in the girls individual race, winning the girls team race and advancing two individuals on the boys side. Nice Job Ohio!

Trying to figure out who is the best team is nearly impossible without running any races, but OHRunners has tried to do just that (solely based on last year's results and returning runners). Over the next few days we will take a look at the top returning teams for both genders in all divisions. Today we take a stab at the Preseason Division 1 Girls.

Lots of movement on the performance lists this weekend, seven new Ohio #1 marks on the girls side and six new leaders on the boys side. There is only one more qualifying meet on the schedule for next weekend, at Oberlin College.

With one month to go until the OATCCC Indoor State meet, many student athletes put up some great times and marks. A total of 30 new Ohio #1 marks were set this weekend, with 25 of those marks being OATCCC Indoor State Meet events.

Cedarville, a notoriously long meet, wrapped up quite early on Saturday, but still provided many fast times and good marks. Good sprints, a strong distance field, and many great marks in the field events provided for a memorable meet.
