While the summer of discontent reigns in the land of the Cleveland Indians, not all baseball news coming from the city is bad. In fact, John Carroll baseball head coach Marc Thibeault has three big reasons to be happy about this baseball summer. John Carroll University senior center Joe Micca has been selected as a nominee for the 2009 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team for his efforts on the field and in the community. John Carroll University sophomore Alicia Giannell was one of 274 student-athletes named to the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association women’s Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team. Laying claim as the first undefeated football team in school history, the 1959 edition of the Blue Streaks has earned induction into the John Carroll University Athletic Hall of Fame. James Steward became John Carroll's 46th Academic All-American and its 14th first team selection by virtue of earning his way onto the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® men's at-large college division squad. John Carroll graduated senior Andrea Kovacs earned one last honor for his swimming career, as she was named to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Women's At-Large Academic All-District IV second team. Ben Adams picked up yet another honors for his 2008-09 season, as he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV men's at-large college division second team. MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College track and field announced the first of three hirings with the addition of Ken Ciolek to the program's coaching staff.
