    UC women's track & field and cross country head coach Susan Seaton has received a three-year contract extension, through the 2015-16 season. The new agreement comes after a 2011-12 seasons that saw the Bearcats finish second in the BIG EAST indoor championship and fourth in outdoor, qualify 10 student-athletes for the NCAA finals and have three finish as All-Americans.     The University of Cincinnati's own Mary Wineberg has her eyes set on the 2012 Olympics in London, England. She is commonly known for being a 2008 Olympic gold medalist on the United States 4x400 meter relay team. Wineberg is proud of what she has accomplished on the track and now has a new pride off of it, a daughter that goes by the name of Brooklyn Marie Wineberg. Since having her baby on August 3rd, 2009, Wineberg has had to make the adjustment from being just an athlete and a wife, to also being a mother. Physically she has been recovering from the effects of pregnancy and taking off a year because of it.

    Former University of Cincinnati track and field all-American in the 110 high hurdles and 2008 Olympic silver medalist, David Payne, became the first UC track and field athlete to capture a National Championship after finishing in first place in the 110 high hurdles at the USA Track and Field Junior and Senior Nationals held in Eugene, Ore., June 25-28. Additionally, current UC track and field junior Antione Drakeford (Columbus, Ohio/Africentric) and freshman Michael Rutherford (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) finished 14th in the 400 meters of the senior national and 12th in the 800 meters of the junior national, respectively.

  • Cotten, Drakeford Round Out NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

    University of Cincinnati juniors Antione Drakeford (Columbus, Ohio/Africentric) and Jasmine Cotten (Fayetteville, W. Va./Fayetteville) competed in the semifinals of the 400 meters and Day 2 of the heptathlon, respectively, on Day 3 of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Cotton combined to score 1,911 points in the final day of the heptathlon to finish 18th, while Drakeford fell just short of qualifying for Saturday's final with a 12th place time of 46.00 in the 400.

  • Cotten Tied for Ninth Place After Day 1 of Heptathlon at NCAA Championships

    Junior Jasmine Cotten (Fayetteville, W. Va./Fayetteville) completed Day 1 of the heptathlon at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and sits in a tie for ninth place with a score of 3,375.In the first of four events on Day 1, Cotten clocked in at 14.14 in the 100 hurdles, placing her 17th among 27 competitors and scoring 959 points. The second event was the high jump and Cotten made up ground in one of her best events. Cotten tied for the highest clearance in the event with a leap of 5' 11-1/2", giving her 991 points.

  • Drakeford Advances to 400 Meter Semifinals at NCAA Championships

    With a scheduled start time of 8:15 p.m. ET for the 400 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, University of Cincinnati junior Antione Drakeford (Columbus, Ohio/Africentric) had to wait out a three-hour weather delay due to inclement weather in the Fayetteville, Ark., before stepping into the starting blocks around 11:15 p.m. ET. Needing to finish in either the Top 3 of his heat or own one of the next three fastest times to advance to the semifinals, Drakeford remained focused throughout the delay and finished second in the fifth heat to proceed to the 400 meter semifinals, which will take place at 8:25 p.m. ET on Friday, June 12.

    NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the NCAA Division I cross country regional rankings today for both the men’s and women’s teams.  After four weeks of running not much has changed.  None of the men’s or women’s top ranked teams in the nine regions lost their top billing this time around.    Things should get a bit more interesting this weekend as there are several top meets across the board.
