OhioMilesplit  Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher

In the final OATCC poll the top four teams were from the Troy Region.  Mason, the defending State champion sat atop the poll followed by last year’s State runner-up Centerville, Last years’ number three team, Beavercreek, was ranked 4th with Springboro Ranked 3rd.  The Region had a few surprises, but was definitely the strongest Region and just maybe an indication of what will happen at State.  Centerville won the Regional with a score of 91.  Mason was 3rd with a 112.  Beavercreek was 4th with a 116 and Springboro 5th with a 117.  Ursuline Academy surprised everyone with their 2nd place finish posting 102 points.  Based on the Regional results, The pick for the top spot on the podium is Centerville

The Centerville girls were led by Sophomore Lainey Studebaker’s number two regional finisher. Studebaker (18:02.23) was just 10 seconds back of the Regional winner and D1 overall individual favorite, Cin. St. Ursula’s Annie Heffernan.  Centerville’s number two and three girls are both Seniors.  Meredith Rintoul (18:59.40) and Meghan Harris (19:03.010) ran 16th and 18th respectively.  The team’s number 4 runner is Junior Alexa Jennings who ran 21st in 19:14.70.  The number 5 spot is held by Senior Sonal Gupta (19:28.36) who ran 34th.  Gupta is pushed by Sophomore Melissa Sevier who ran 19:31.0 in 35th.

The number two spot Saturday will go to Ursuline based upon their performance at Regionals. The girls were led by 4th place finisher, Senior, Christine Frederick (18:21.02) and 5th place finisher, Junior, Catherine Finke (18:27.46).  Ursuline’s 3rd runner is Freshman Anna Herriot.  She ran 20th at Regionals with a time of 19:14.28.  The teams 4th runner is Junior Grace Kelly (26th, 19:16.96) and running 5th, Junior Colleen Johnston (47th, 19:48.16).  The key to Ursuline placing in the two spot just may be on how their number four and five runners place handle the pace of State and the frantic finish in the pack.

The number three place goes Mason.  They are a very talented team, but young.  The team is led by two Freshman.  12th place Ailee Henderson (18:53.02) and 15th place Ellie Brush (18:59.32).  Henderson and Brush are followed by two Sophomores, Megan Murphy (25th, 19:16.88) and Leah Ford (29th, 19:24.22).  Senior Kinsey McBeath is the teams number five runner (31st, 19:27.11).  Junior Bethany Angstadt may place as she was just 1 second back of McBeath at Regionals (19:28.31)

Perrysburg, Gahanna Lincoln and Beavercreek are a toss-up for the four and five positions.  Perrysburg won the Tiffin Regional with 61 points, Beavercreek ran 4th at Troy and Gahanna Lincoln was the champ at the Pickerington Regional.

Beavercreek was 3rd at State last year and their 1 and 2 runners return.  Senior Danielle Berane was 11th at Regionals (18:52.92) and ran 24th at State last year as their number two runner.  Junior Emma Hensley was their number three runner last year and was 40th at State.  She is the number three runner again this year, running 23rd at Regionals. (19:15.91). Junior, Aurora Turner ran 6th for the team at State last year and is the teams number two runner this year, placing 19th at Regionals with a time of19:08.92. The number four runner is Sophomore Cami Baird (27th, 19:18.11).  The number five runner is Freshman Lauren Shuman (36th, 19:31.24).

Perrysburg is led by Senior Taylor Monheim who was 3rd in the Tiffin Region running 18:41.34.  Their number two runner is another Senior, Courtney Clody.  She was 7th in 19:04.16.  Their number 3 runner is Junior Jordan Doore. (13t, 19:14.25).  Number four is Junior Emily Henry (17th, 19:31.75).  Number five is Freshman Gace Lahey (21st, 19:39.42).  The key to Perrysburg’s place may lie with Lahey as a Freshman, but on her heals is Sophomore Katie Menke (23rd, 19:43.83) In fact, all 7 of Perrysburg runners have just over a 1 minute separation.

The key to Gahanna Lincoln getting on the podium in the top five is their ability to run as a pack behind their front runner.  This team is probably a year away from being a real contender, as their entire top 7 are underclassmen.  Kelsey Sandlin was the number one runner and regional champ (18:47.77). Rylee Tanner was the two runner (18th, 19:46.00).  Lincoln's number three runner is sophomore  Kelsey Thompson (20th, 19:46.99).  Freshman Ally Wharton (21st, 19:48.43) is the number four runner and freshman Ivy Mckee(44th, 20:25.16) is the five runner.

OhioMilesplit  Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher

Woodridge was ranked 8th in the final OATCC poll, but based upon their dominant performance in the Youngstown Regional, they should repeat as State Champions .  They do not have a dominant runner, but their five scorers are all Seniors and were only 21 seconds apart at Regionals.  The team is led by John Harry (11th, 17:04.08) who was their 4th man last year and Noah Bullock (19th, 17:17.99) who was their fifth man last year.  The number three runner is Andrew Stewart (20th, 17:21.98).  Four is Kyle Jarvis (26th, 17:24.46).  Five is Gabe Boyd (27th, 17:25.43).  The number 6 runner is another Senior, Tim Faiken, and he was just seven seconds back of Boyd.

The number two spot on the podium should go to Sheridan.  They were ranked 12th in the final poll, but had a very strong 1st place showing in the Pickerington Regional scoring just 66 points.  At Regionals they had six runners in the top ten led by the 1st and 2nd place finishers, Senior Matt Bromley and Sophomore Joey Palumbo respectively.  Bromley was dominant, running 16:01.99 some 30 seconds ahead of his 2nd place teammate who finished in 16:31.86.  Bromley is a favorite to win the individual title as he ran 3rd last year .  Sheridan’s 3rd runner was another Sophomore, Clay Fisher, who ran 6th in 16:56.64.  Their place at State will be determined by their number four and five runners.  Sophomore, Keith Clelland ran 23rd (17:27.63) and  another Sophomore, Garret Gwinn, ran 47th (17:50.88).

The Tiffin Regional Champions, Defiance, should take the 3rd spot on the podium.  They ran away with the Regional, scoring 71 points.  They were not challenged as their 1st three runners were in the top ten, running 3, 6 and 8, less than 13 seconds apart.    Their 4th and 5th runners went 18th and 36th.  The team is led by three State returners.  Senior Alex Barrientos  (3rd, 16:12.24) was 6th at State, Senior Nate Wichman (6th, 16:19.33) was 15th and Senior Garret Wiles (8th, 16:25.39) was 42nd.  The key to their place on the podium will rest with their number 4 and 5 runners, Sophomore Jon Cowell and Senior Tom Koester.  Crowell was 18th at Regionals (16:58.64) and Koester was 36th (17:20.10).

Tippecanoe, the winner of the Troy Regional, with 88 points, should take the 4th spot on the podium.  Sophomore Mitch Poynter placed 1st in the Region, leading the team. (16:13.16)  Pointer was 19 seconds ahead of the teams number 2 runner, Senior Jay Schairbaum.  Schairbaum was 15th in 16:42.75.  The number three runner, Junior Daniel Frame was 7 seconds back of Schairbaum (17th, 16:49.80).  Tippacanoe’s number four runner is Sophomore Tim Andrews (25th, 17:17.21).  The number five runner is Junior Evan Wharton (30th, 17:22.39).

Number five in the State should be CVCA.  They were ranked number one in the final OATCC poll, but placed 2nd in the Boardman Regional, 34 points back of Woodridge, despite going 1,2.  Junior Ryan Adams was 1st in the Regional in 16:12.82.  Senior Ben Bockoven, 5th at State last year, 3rd in 16:37.69.  Almost a minute back was the number three runner, Senior Noah LeBay. (34th, 17:35.03).  Their number four runner, Senior Luke Mazanec, was 41st, running 17:44.13.  The fifth runner was Junior Alex Bartel. (50th, 17:55.62).

OhioMilesplit  Team Predictions by Mark StonecipherGirls Division 2

The D2 girl’s run is a difficult race to predict.  It is almost too close to call with the Youngstown Regional a great preview of State.  However, one has to go with Woodridge based upon their Youngstown Regional win.  All five girls were in the top 15 and were separated by only 33 seconds as they scored 41 points.  The team is led by Senior Madison Spreitzer who crossed the line 1st in the Regional with a time of 19:25.94.  She was 37th at State last year.  The number two runner was Junior Julia Moore (7th, 19:46.870).  The number 3-5 runners finished 10th, 11th and 12th.  Senior Allyson Dryer was 10th (19:58.02).  Senior Erin Kiley was 11th (19:58.23).  Both have State experience. Freshman Natalie Fleming ran 12th (19:59.25).

Akron SVSM should be atop the podium in the number two spot.  They were ranked number one in the final OATCC poll, but finished 2nd to Woodridge in the Youngstown Regional, just 3 points back.  Like Woodridge, SVSM has a close pack with their top five separated by only 39 seconds with all of the girls finishing in the Regional  top 20.  At Regionals the team was led by State returner (14th), Senior Julia Mendiola.  Mendiola ran 19:36.72.  Just behind her in 3rd with a time of 19:37.61 is another State returner, Sophomore Rachel Iacofano.  Iacofano was 2nd at State last year as a Freshman.  The number three runner, Junior Cynthia Haas also has State experience (40th) (19:53.66).  The number four and five runners are Junior Shea O’Brien (13th, 20:03.89) and Freshman Mia Brady (16th, 20:15.60). O’Brien was 79th at State last year.

Bay had a dominant performance in the Tiffin Regional, scoring 46 points.  They were the number two ranked team in the final OATCC poll.  At Regionals, their top five were in the top 20.  The team ran, 3, 4, 8, 12 and 19, led by Senior Maddie Britton with an 18:55.05.  Their 2nd runner, Freshman Amanda Cusimano, was just behind Britton in (19:05.52).  Running 8th at Regionals was Sophomore Abby Christel (19:25.15).  Christel was followed by the number 4 runner, another sophomore, Olivia Bechtel (12th, 19:56.58) and the number five runner, Senior Alyse Arko who was 19th (19:56.58).

The Troy Regional was won by Tippecanoe and it would be hard to not put them on the podium.  They will definitely be in the mix.  I have them as number four.  They are led by Senior Allison Sinning who has been running strong this season and who was the Regional runner-up to Mary Kate Vaughn in 18:18.41.  Sinning finished 7th last Fall.  Tippacanoe went 2, 12, 16, 17 and 20 in the Regional.  Junior Hailey Brumfield was the team’s number two runner with a time of 19:42.76.  The number three runner was Freshman Abbi Halsey (19:57.78).  The number four and five runners were sophomore Emily Wolfe (20:02.86) and Junior Brinna Price (20:04.64).

Lexington ran a strong Regional finishing 2nd to Bay.  They should get the number five spot.  They were 2nd in 2012 and have two experienced State runners, Senior Lillian Freundlich, their number one runner and Senior Susan FainFreundlich was 13th in 2012 and 2nd at Regionals (18:32.97).  Fain was 54th in 2012 and ran 6th at Regionals in the number three spot on the team (19:08.70).  Just ahead of Fain at Regionals was Freshman Mackenna Curtis (5th, 19:07.47).  The teams number four runner is Sophomore Emily Taylor (26th, 20:10.86).  Number five for Lexington is another Freshman, Whitney Wendling (29th, 20:13.89).  Lexington’s place on the podium just may be determined by how their three Freshman run in their 1st State experience.

OhioMilesplit  Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher

Garaway was ranked number five in the final OATCC poll.  However, based upon the strength of their number one finish in the Pickerington Regional, they are the pick to be atop the podium at State.  They ran 2, 7, 9, 11, 17th in Regionals.  Four of their five runners return to State led by Senior Alex Shrock.  Shrock was 2nd at Regionals (4th overall) in a time of 16:30.94.  Junior Blake Yoder is the teams number two runner (16:54.31).   The number three runner is Junior Caleb Morehart (17:03.48).  Junior’s Wyatt Schwartz (17:07.00) and Samuel Wentworth (17:36.84) are the number four and five runners.  Schwartz is the only non-State returner.  Their place atop the podium just may depend on how much Wentworth can close the 29 second gap between he and Schwartz.

The number two spot should go to last years’ number five team, Summit Co. Day.  They handily won the Troy Regional scoring 66 points.  They ran 1, 3, 18, 21, 23 and their 6th man was 24th.  The team is led by State returner, Junior Mason Moore who placed 1st in the Region with a time of 16:11.53.  Summit’s number two runner, Junior John Murdock (3rd, 16:31.97) also returns to State..  The key to their finish this year will be the strength of their pack.  Their number 3, 4, 5 and 6th runners were only 11 seconds apart in Regionals.  The pack is led by a trio of Sophomores.  Will Mackey ran 18th in17:26.85, Connor Shaw 21st in 17:29.98 and Brady McBride 23rd in 17:34.88.  Junior Grady Stuckman, their 6th man, was 24th in 17:37.23.

Maplewood, last years’ number four team at State should be the number three team.  There 1st three runners all return to State. Sophomore Tristan Dahmen, the 2nd place runner in the Region with a time of 16:19.51 led the team to their first place finish in the Youngstown Region.  Senior Solomon Yoder ran 7th in 16:41.22.  The teams number three runner, Junior Derek Morrison, was 15th in 17:02.77. The key to their placement on the podium will rest with two Freshman, Jake Hall and Zach Leatherberry, their 4th and 5th men.  Hall was 21st in Regionals (17:19.16).  Leatherberry was 37th. (17:37.05).

The number four team should be the defending State Champions, Seneca East.  They were 4 point back of Maplewood  in the Youngstown Regional.  Seneca East’s 1st four runners were separated by only 22 seconds in Regionals, but their number five runner was 58 seconds back.  The key to their place on podium will be the strength of their number five runner.  If the gap can be closed, they just may place higher.  The team is experienced with all five runners from last year returning.  They are led by Junior Jared Stockmaster. (5th, 16:31.16).  The number two runner is Senior Jason Willman (8th, 16:46.93).  Number three is Junior Wes Pipher (9th, 16:47.04).  Number four is Junior Carson Pipher (13th, 16:53.17).  The teams number five runner is Junior Michael Szabo (51st, 17:55.94).

The Tiffin Regional winner Liberty Center should be the number five team.  All five runners were separated by 50 seconds.  The team is led by 4th place finisher, Senior Cameron Weaks. (16:32.31).  Sophomore Colin Burns ran in the number two position (16:47.28).  The number three through six runners are all Juniors.  Kyle Nash ran 16th in 17:07.91, Matt Baker was 21st in 17:17.45, Vince Pinson was 26th is 17:22.05 and Jason Hadley was 28th in 17:22.43.

OhioMilesplit  Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher

Gilmour Academy was 3rd at State last year.  This year they should be atop the podium.  They dominated the Youngstown Regional scoring 46 points and led the final OATCC poll.  At Regionals, their five girls were separated by just 21 seconds as they placed  5, 7, 10, 11 and 15.  Their 6th runner was 18th.  The team is complete from last year and their experience shows.  They are led by Senior Halle Markel (5th, 19:51.64).  The number two runner is Sophomore Catherine Dolohanty (7th, 20:02.82).  Sophomore Hanna Markel is the teams number three runner (20:12.91.  Junior Caitlin Whetstone is the number four runner (11th, 20:15.60).  Senior Madeleine Krakowiak runs in the fifth position (15th, 20:30.10).  Freshman Bree Zedar and Sydney Hliska are the 6th and 7th runners.

The number two team should be the defending Champions Liberty Center.  They scored 47 points in winning the Tiffin Regional, edging out runner up Coldwater (52) and Minster (60).  The team is led by the 2011 State Champion, Brittany Atkinson.  Atkinson was 3rd at Regionals running 18:16.94.  Senior Paige Chamberlain is the teams number two runner.  Chamberlain ran 4th in 19:19.35.  The number three runner is Sophomore Olivia Kundo.  (6th, 19:24.76). In the number four spot is another Sophomore, Jenna Vollmar (9th, 19:40.15).  If Liberty Center is to challenge for the number one spot, their number five runner, Sophomore Rachel Pinson (25th, 20:47.10) will need to close the gap between herself and Vollmar.

Coldwater will be on the podium in the number three position.  They placed 2nd to Liberty Center in the Tiffin Region and were second to them at last year’s State.  The team is led by defending State Champion Junior Sarah Kanney, who won the Tiffin Region, running 18:03.01.  Just behind her at Regionals was another experience runner, Senior Christina Seas.  Seas was 3rd, running 18:05.29.  Christina’s sister, Junior Lauren Seas is the teams’ number three runner.  She ran 7th in 19:35.49.  The number four runner is Junior Kierstin Siefring. (14th, 20:05.46) and the teams number five runner is Sophomore Kelly Jutte.  Jutte was 28th in 21:04.32.  If Coldwater is going to challenge and move up on the podium, just as Liberty Center, the fifth runner will need to close the gap between herself and the number four runner.

Minster was 5th at State last year and should be on the podium again in the 4th spot.  They were 3rd in the Tiffin Region.  Minster is young.  There fifth place runner, Olivia Enneking is the only Senior.  Enneking ran 20th at Regionals in 20:30.07.  The team is led by Freshman Morgan Pohl who ran 5th in 19:19.65.  Sophomore Kaci Bornhorst was 8th in 19:38.77.  Another Freshman, Ali Borgerding, was 11th in 19:48.24.  The teams fourth runner is sophomore Lisa Barlage.  Barlage ran16th in 20:16.49.

On the podium in the 5th spot will be Russia.  Russia won the Troy Regional and is led by Junior Emily Borchers.  Borchers was 1st at Regionals with a 19:09.50.  Sophomore Lauren Heaton, the number two runner, is an experienced State runner along with Borchers.  She was 6th at Regionals, running 19:46.17.  Russia’s number three runner is Sophomore Molly Hearns (25th, 20:47.640.  The number four girl is Senior Kirstin Voisard (28th, 21:02.01).  Voisard’s younger sister, Sophomore Karissa, is the number five runner. (29th, 21:02.47).
