Third Annual Ohio State Hammer Championship set for June 8th - Give it a toss!

 

The Third Annual Ohio State Hammer Championship will take place June 8th, 2014 on the Ohio State University campus in Columbus, Ohio.  The meet is designed for any athlete that is interested in throwing the hammer to get a chance to compete, but to also showcase the elite hammer throwers that the state continues to produce.  Ohio currently has seven athletes in the top 25 in the hammer throw in the nation according to MileSplit.com. On the boys side Logan Bryer (Genoa Area) is ranked 9th in the nation with a throw of 208-0, Robert Landers (Wayne) is ranked 18th with a throw of 196-6, James Eblen (Centerville), who placed as the runner-up at last year’s New Balance Nationals in the Emerging Elite division, is currently ranked 20th with a throw o192-11, and Lane Hluch (Rootstown) is ranked 21st with a throw of 192-9.  For the girls,  Gabby Figueroa (Austintown Fitch), who won the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the weight throw, is ranked 6th with a throw of 170-3, Kaylee Antill (Tri-Valley) is ranked 23rd with a throw of 145-6, and Te’Reia Mackey (Wayne) has thrown 144-0 and is ranked 25th in the nation.

All seven of these throwers have competed at the meet in the past and are expected to compete again this year along with other top hammer throwers throughout the state.

Time:
On site registration and check-in will start at 10:00am
Boys 12lbs. Hammer competition will begin at 11:00am
Girls 4K Hammer competition will begin at the completion of the boys competition, but will not start earlier than 12:00am
The boys 6K/5K Hammer competition will begin following the girls competition.

Each athlete will get 3 throws with the top 9 athletes will receive 3 more throws in the final

**Middle School athletes may compete using their weight of implement with the same gender high school athletes

Ohio State University Hammer Cage - Located across Fred Taylor Drive from Jesse Owens Stadium.


Entry Fee:
The entry fee $20 per athlete – day of registration only will begin at 10am on June 8th at the hammer cage across from Jesse Owens Stadium
