2014 State Track Highlights

Great athletes, great coaches, great fans and great weather made the 107th Annual Boys and 40th Annual Girl’s State Track & Field Meet at Jesse Owens Stadium a memorable one.  104 Champions stood atop the podium in all three divisions. The two days saw four new Stadium records, four Division records and two All Time Ohio records, including a US #1 time over the two day meet.  Here is a look at your new record holders and a few other memorable performances.  Congratulations to our State Champions and to all of the athletes.

Highlighting the event is the new US#1 time in the 4x800 by the St. Xavier boys.  Their 7:36.33 set a new D1 Record, a new State Meet Record and a new Owens Stadium Record and an All Time Ohio mark.  Their time is 3.06 and 3.11 seconds ahead of the #2 ranked Wisconsin Lutheran HS and #3 ranked Chaminade of NY.  In the race, Sr. Michael Hall split 1:53, Jr. Brad Eagan 1:56, Sr. Evan Stifel 1:56 and Jr. Michael Vitucci 1:51.  On Saturday, Vitucci followed up his 1:51 anchor with a State Championship in the 1600 in a time of 4:07.96.  Hall was second in 4:08.52.

In the Girl’s D2 4x800, another record fell as the Perrysburg Girls narrowly won over Geneva, with both teams besting the 9:06.45 Stadium record 

set by Euclid in 2005.  Perrysburg ran 9:04.63.  Geneva 9:06.45.  The Perrysburg quartet was led by Sr.’s Taylor Monheim and Courtney Clody. Monheim ran the 3rd leg, with Clody anchoring.  The first leg was run by Jr. Jordan Doorell.  The 2nd leg by So. Alexis Kemp.  The Geneva team was:  Sr. Hailey VanHoy, Fr. Dareion Marreson, So. Brittany Aveni and anchor Jr. Emily Deering.

 

In the D2 Girl’s Pole Vault, Sr. Allyson Simmons of Navarre Fairless, won her 2nd State title in a row.  She won last year with a vault of 13-01.25.  This year her vault of 13-04.25 set a new D2 State Record, a new State Meet Record, a new Owens Stadium record and an All Time Ohio record.  She is also now ranked #6 Nationally.

John Lint of Col. Academy set a new D3 and State Meet Record in the D3 Boy’s 300m Hurdles.  Lint won in a time of 36.32.  Lint was also second earlier in the day in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.20.

In the final event of the day, the Boy’s 4x400, the Glenville quartet of Sr.’s Adam Lett, Falonte Jackson, Darrien Hickman and Davon Anderson were only .70 seconds off of the State record, running a fast 3:13.75.

Sr. Davon Anderson of Glenville and Sr. Steele Wasik of St. Edwards battled each other in the D1 Boys’ 110H and the 300H.  In the 110H, Anderson just nipped Wasik 13.64 to 13.94.  In the 300H, Wasik came back, winning in 36.31 to Anderson’s 36.39.

Canal Winchester Sr. Joscelyn Powell was a double winner.  She won the D1 Girl’s 100H in 13.98 and came back and won the 300H in 44.29.  In the 300, she just edged out Olentangy Sr. Marinice BowmanBowman ran 42.22.

Sr.’s Autumn Heath of Lakota West and Jelvon Butler of Solon made the Girl’s 100 and 200 as exciting as the boys.  In the 100, Heath beat Butler in 11.90 to 11.95.  In the 200, Butler came backand beat Heath running 23.98 to Butler’s 23.99.

MyKale Rogers of Lima Central Catholic won his 3rd straight D3 title in the Long Jump.  His leap of 24-05.50 set a new D3 State Record and an Owens Stadium Record.

In the D3 Gir'ls 4x800, St. Thomas Aquinas ran almost 20 seconds faster than their closet competitor, runing 9:11.66.  The girl's set a new D3 Record and an Owens Stadium Record.  The record setting team was led by anchor Sr. Molly Pusateri.  So. Athena Welsh led the gir'sl off with Fr. Kalee Soehnlen and Fr Kacee Soehnlen running the middle legs.   

 

The Girl's D2 1600 was the fastest girl's 1600 of all the divisions.  CVCA Jr. Sammy Bockoven ran 4:49.53 setting a new D2 record and a new State Meet record.  Jr. Taylor Vernot of Wauseon was second in 4:53.34.  Both girl's outran two time defending champion Sarah Kanney of Coldwater.
