Boardman Spartan Invitational Preview

Division 1 Boys

The D1 boy's race will feature four of the top ten from last year, including #5, Sr. Kyle Mau of Hudson(15:39.10), #6 Jacob Kernell of Uniont. Lake (15:58.20), #7 Kevin White of Wooster and #8 Sr. Matt McGoey of North Allegheny (16:00.20).  McGoey is #2 ranked in PA having run a 15:27.30.  McGoey's teammate, Hunter Wharrey is ranked #2 in PA with a 15:32.20.

The defending team champion, Olentangy Liberty will have a difficult time defending with the Ohio #8 team Louisville and the PA #1 ranked boy's team, North Allegheny.  

Division 1 Girls

The D1 girl's race features defending meet champion, Jr. Madeleine Davison of North Allegheny (18:22.60).  Davison is the #1 ranked girl in PA having run a 17:32.90 this year.  Six of last years top ten return, including the #2 and 3 runners, Sr. Alexis Szivin of Steele (19:23.30) and Sr. Leah Vasarhelyi of Nordonia (1923.30).

The team race will be close and should be between PA #9 North Allegheny and Ohio #7 Nordonia.

 

Division 2 Boys

The D2 boy's race returns four from last year's top ten.  CVCA Sr. Ryan Adams is the #6 ranked boy in Ohio with a 15:58.16 and was 2nd last year, running 16:09.00.  Right behind him in 3rd last year was Marlington Sr. Ty Raybuck (16:24.90).  This year's Ohio #8, SVSM's Joe Rossetti (15:41.95) was 9th last year (17:04.20).

NDCL ran 6th last year in the team race, but are favored this year, as they come in with the #1 Ohio D2 Boys ranking. and a strong win at Tiffin last weekend.

Division 2 Girls

The D2 Girl's race has 6 returners from last year's top ten.  SVSM Jr. Rachel Iacafano is ranked 17th at this time in Ohio and was the #2 runner last year. (19:16.10).  Bay So. Amanda Cusimano was 4th last year (19:19.00) and Villa Maria Academy Jr., Bernadette Prichard, was 5th and comes to the meet leading the #4 PA ranked team. 

The team race features Ohio #2 ranked SVSM and the #4 ranked PA team, Villa Maria Academy.

 

 

 

 

Division 3 Boys

The D3 boys race features Jr. Tristan Dahmen of Maplewood who was 2nd (15:58.16) and who leads two other Ohio'ans, who ran 9th and 10th last year.  So.Tyler Polman of Independence (16:49.30) and Sr. Derek Morrison of Maplewood (17:00.50). Another Maplewood runner that will contend for the championship is Maplewood Jr. Allen Sparks.  Sparks was .03 seconds ahead of Dahmen last weekend in winning at Tiffin. The team race should be won by Maplewood.  They are the defending champions and ranked the #1 D3 team in Ohio.  McDonald was 3rd last year and they come to the meet as the #4 D3 ranked Ohio team.

Division 3 Girls 

The D3 girls has 9 of the top ten girl's returning, including the defending champions Sr. Athena Welsh of St. Thomas Aquinas (19:32.00).  Welsh is the # 7 ranked Ohio girl. The #2 and 3 girl's also return.  #2 was So. Jan Wisniewski of Independence (19:38.40) and Gilmour Jr. Hanna Markel (19:39.50).  On the team side, Ohio D3 # 2 Berkshire should contend for the championship.  They were 5th last year.  The St. Thomas Aquias girl's are ranked 6th in D3.
