Wisconsin solidifies hold on top spot in Division I men’s cross country poll
Wisconsin received nine of 13 first-place votes to tighten its grip on the top position in the second Division I men’s poll of the cross country season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today.
The next two teams, Colorado and Oregon, received the remaining first-place votes. Colorado received one first-place vote while third-ranked Oregon claimed three first-place votes.
Rounding out the top 10 are fourth-ranked Iona, Arkansas, Stanford and UTEP (tied for sixth), Oklahoma State, North Carolina State and Texas.
The second 10 consists of Portland, Notre Dame, William & Mary, Providence, Louisville, Georgetown, Alabama, Minnesota, Northern Arizona and BYU.
Wisconsin opened its season with a victory at the Pioneer Invitational on Saturday, registering a perfect score of 15. The Badgers swept the top nine spots, led by individual winner Andrew Lacy.
No. 11 Portland moved up four spots in the season’s second poll. The Pilots won the West Coast Preview meet with their “B” team on Sept. 14, placing five runners in the top 10.
Syracuse went from being unranked to claiming the 26th spot following its Sept. 14 victory at the Boston College Invitational.
The voting panel for the USTFCCCA Division I men’s poll consists of nine elected regional representatives, four at-large members of the USTFCCCA and compiled by Don Kopriva.
Stanford is ranked first in this week’s Division I women’s poll.
