This "race" actually consists of many different courses, but what it does is take each individual runner's best time of the year (seasonal PR) and ranks them numerically, just like a Cross Country race. And just like in a regular Cross Country race we have added up the top five individuals places to come up with the team score. We have included any 6th or 7th runners that have made the qualifying standard of 20:45, and used their scores to displace other runners scores.
The top ten teams are currently:
1. Brecksville-Broadview Hieghts - 499
While there was no change to their individual times this week, BB Heights did add a few points to their team score. Last week, BB Heights had a nearly 300 point lead on second place North Canton Hoover, but a strong showing from Mason has narrowed the lead down to only 113 points
2. Mason - 612
Mason jumps up 2 spots, from number 4 to number 2 this week, following strong performances by Stephanie Chaney (38 second PR) and Molly Culbertson (19 second PR) at the Fairmont Firebrid Invitational in Kettering, Ohio this past Saturday. Their 6th and 7th runners have also made a move into the low 200's (in terms of individual finishing), where as thier 6th and 7th runners were in the 270's and 280's last week. Mason's 1 through 5 runners are now all within 30 seconds of each other, showing that they have a team where anyone can step up and be their lead runner.
3. North Canton Hoover - 708
Hoover fell one spot, from last weeks number to 2 to their current number 3 standing. Erin Garfield improved on her time this week, picking up 4 places for Hoover.
4. Seneca East - 761
Last week this team was unranked and only had four runners that had run a qualifying mark. They not only added one runner, the added two, and showed that they belong in the talk for State Championship teams. This team is lead by three freshman and a sophomore who have all run sub 19:40 for a 5K. This team has set themselves up nicely for a run at the title this year and for years to come.
5. Colerain - 827
Colerain fell from the number 3 ranking last week to their current number 5 spot. Colerain had a less than stellar showing at the Fairmont Firebird Invitational this week, finishing 6th in the 20+ team field. Their one bright spot for the week though was senior Kate Wharton who improved her time by over 10 seconds and also finished in the top 10 of the Girls Division 1 race at Fairmont.
6. Kings - 884
Kings moved up 1 spot into the number 6 ranking on the 15 second PR of Jenna Ludlow. Kings has quietly run well under the radar, but also very consitently this whole year. Look for them to start peaking and making a move in the rankings and in the postseason.
7. Springboro - 912
Springboro makes its first venture in to the top 10 this week by catapulting four spots from the number 11 ranking it held a week ago. Sprigboro had a very strong meet this past weekend, placing two runners in the top 5 and three runners in the top 12 at the Fairmont Firebird Invitational. Three big PR's helped push Springboro up to number 7, with the biggest PR coming from junior Molly Tepe, who improved her time by over 35 seconds.
8. Anderson - 945
Anderson dropped three spots in the poll, falling from number 5 to their current ranking of number 8. OHRunners is unsure of where they ran this weekend and does not have any results for their top 7 runners for the weekend of September 29th.
9. Minster - 963
This is another team that has dropped three spots into their current ranking of number 9. Minster did run on a slow Botkins course this past weekend, but their top 7 runners did not improve on their already fast times.
10. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy - 968
Yet another team that has fallen in the rankings this week, CVCA drops two spots from the number 8 ranking, but still stays in the top 10 by a margin of 44 points over 11th place Alter. CVCA ran at the tough Cuyahoga Valley National Park course at the Woodridge Invitational over the weekend, so their PR's did not improve.
