Strongsville Sprinter Kendall Gregory Verbals to Michigan

Kendall GregoryKendall Gregory will be a Wolverine. The Strongsville senior recently verbally accepted a scholarship to the University of Michigan.

The Lorain Morning Journal reported Kendall Gregory as saying, ''Michigan was in the process from the beginning.  They have a good academic reputation and I really clicked with the coach and the guys on the team.

''It was hard narrowing my choices and it came right down to the end. It was tough, but in the end I think I made the right decision.''

Gregory has had a pretty impressive career in Track & Field starting with his State Title as a freshman.  While running for Lake Ridge Academy Gregory ran 48.88 in the 400m at the 2005 Division III OHSAA State Championships.  As a sophomore the following year, Gregory placed third in the 2006 Division III State meet with a time of 48.41 for the 400m.

Seeking tougher competition, Gregory transferred to Strongsville, a Division I school, for the 2007 season.  This past season Gregory finished second in the 400m with a personal best time of 47.01 in the Division I State meet.  His mark of 47.01 ranked Gregory in the top 20 times nationally, and is in the top five returning times in the country.

JJHuddle.com reports that Gregory has had many offers, 23 in total, with 16 of those being full scholarship offers.  Besides Michigan, Gregory seriously considered offers from Texas Christian University, Georgia and Ohio State.Kendall Gregory with UM Coach Ron Warhurst

Of note is that Keeon Gregory, Kendall's father, also was a Big Ten sprinter, but for Ohio State, not their rival.  Keeon competed for OSU from 1986-1989 and ran on four relays that won Big Ten titles.   Keeon also won two individual indoor Big ten titles, both in the 600m.

Kendall will look to improve on his impressive Personal Records of 21.57 in the 200m, 47.01 in the 400m, and a 4x400 split of 46.6 and a 4x800 split of 1:52.  Some of Gregory's other accomplishments include: 2007 Nike Outdoor All-American (6th place 47.04); 2007 NSSF National Team (Competed in Puerto Rico) 1st place 400 47.29; Posted the 5th fastest 600 meter time in high school history with a 1:19.4; and 2006 USATF Nationals- Ohio Flyers member of 4x800 National Runner-Up that ran a 7:39.32.
