Anything can happen in T&F. False starts, injuries, falls, a poor performance and break through PR's. When one looks realistically at events and the performances of who is entered in the 2016 NBNI, there are only two events where Ohio girls may win. Here is a closer look at those events: the 60m and the Weight Throw.
Abby Steiner ran fast at the OATCCC Indoor State championships winning the D1 60m in 7.38. That time put her US #3. Only Cassondra Hall of Spring Athletics (Alpharetta) in GA and Zaria Francis of Rio Mesa High in CA have run faster this indoors. Both come in with 7.36's. Steiner has drawn lane 5 in heat 4 and is in a good position there to qualify out to the finals. Celera Barnes is in lane 6 next to her (US #4). Justice Richardson is in Heat 3, lane 4 with Cassondra Hall. Richardson is ranked US t#8 with a 7.47 and may make the finals. Francis is in Heat 5, lane 5. On Feb. 13th at Spire, Steiner ran third to Lanae-Tava Thomas of Henrietta US #5 and Richardson. Can Steiner win? If she makes the finals, she is defintely fast enough to win. AND, don't count Richardson out from winning.
