4x800 Meter Relay

Maplewood is the defending champion. Last year they won with a time of 7:49.02.  Less than one second off od the  D3 State record and State Meet record of 7:48.39 set by Yellow Springs in 2007 with Sam Borchers anchoring.  Sr. Tristan Dahmen, Sr.  Allen Sparks and Jr. Jake Hall all return with So. Ethan Sparks replacing the graduated Derek Morrison.  They won the Navarre Regional in 7:55.50.  Ranked #2 and finishing just behind them in the Navarre Regional is St. Thomas Aquinas.  They They were 4th last year and return all four squad members: Sr. Jacob Caniford, Sr. Jacob Paul, Sr. John Laubacher and Jr. Ed Walsh.  Columbus Academy won the Lancaster Region in 8:06.71 and they are ranked D3 #3.  Smithville was 3rd at Navarre in 8:07.64.  It looks like the Navarre Regional was a preview of the State meet.  The question is, who will win.  The nod has to go to Maplewood to repeat.  I'm not sure they can pickup the 7 seconds they need to get the record.

110 Meter Hurdles

With Chad Zallow graduated, it looks like last years #2 finisher Sr. Hunter Blankenmeyer of Lincolnview is ready to take the top spot.  He ran 14.72 last year and has gone 14.36 this season.  Three others return from last year's finals: D3  #2 Sr. Dylan Snyder of Montpelier was 6th last year in 15.09.  He has run 14.68 this year.  Arcadia Sr. Clint Recker is D3 #4 with a 14.73.  He was 7th last year in 15.19 and was 3rd in the Tiffin Region.  Jr. Jack Herbst of Fairbanks was 8th last year with a 15.34.  He ran 15.29 and was 3rd in the Lancaster Region. Jr. Jordan Beight of Grandview won the Lancaster Region with a 14.91.  Beight and Blankenmeyer go against each other in the prelims.  This may be Blankenmeyer's year atop the podium.

100 Meter Dash

Paint Valley Sr. Tony Hatfield and Cin. Country Day Sr. Darryn Jordan are the only two returners from last year.  Hatfield was 4th in 11.03 and Jordan was 5th in 11.03.  Hatfield qualified with an 11.11 and Jordan with an 11.27.  The fastest qualifiers under 11.00 were: Sr. John Colangelo of Canton Central Catholic with a 10.78, Sr. Hayden Snow of St. Mary Central Catholic with a 10.85, Sr. Cole Fortner of Wynford with a 10.86, Sr. Bailey Storeholder of Delta with a 10.88  and Mason Warnimont of Cory-Rawson with a 10.91.  Colangelo won the Navarre Region. Snow won the Tiffin Region.  .58 separates all of the State qualifiers.  ???

4x200 Meter Relay

The four Regional winners sit as the top 4 teams in the D3 rankings.  Canton Central Catholic won at Navarre with a 1:29.85, Columbus Academy won at Lancaster with a 1:29.91, Purcell Marian won at Troy with a 1:30.00 and Wynford won at Tiffin with a 1:30.44.  The winner will have to go under 1:30.  The CCC squad is: Jr. Sean Dick, Jr. Griffin Baumoel, Sr. John Colangelo and Sr. Mark Moros.

1,600 Meter Run

With Chad Johnson of Colonel Crawford opting to run the 3,200, Sr. Jacob Caniford of St. Thomas Aquinas is the favorite to win the boys D3 1,600.  He is the only D3 boys under 4:20 with a 4:19.45.  Jr. Kenny Wallace of Mathews is ranked D3 #3 with a 4:22.94 that he ran in the Navarre Regional placing 2nd to Caniford.  Maplewood Sr. Allen Sparks was 3rd last year in 4:21.74 and leads the returners, but he ran 3rd in the Navarre Region with a 4:25.05.  Maplewood Sr. Tristan Dahmen was 4th at Navarre and is the defending 3,200 champion.  He can run fast, but will he?  Regional times can be misleading.  The winner will have to go under 4:20 and it's Caniford's race to win.

4x100 Meter Relay

The top 12 D3 times were all run last week in Regionals.  .98 seconds is the separation between Cin. Country Day's 43.00 and Stuebenville Catholic Central's 43.98.  It's all about hitting the exchanges.  This one will be real close.  You call it!

400 Meter Dash

Only two D3 boys have gone sub-50 this season and both times were run at Regionals.  Sr. Spencer Cole of New London won the Tiffin Region in 49.66 and So. Jerome Buckner of Columbus Academy won the Lancaster Regional with time of 49.80.  Buckner was 5th last year in 50.31.  The only other returner from last year is Archbold Jr. Jack Fisher who was 8th in 51.45.  This one will be a battle down the last 50m.  It may take a sub-49 to win.

300 Meter Hurdles

Fairbank's Jr. Jack Herbst is the only returner from last years finals.  He was 4th in 39.79.  This year, Sr. Dylan Snyder of Montpelier heads the boys rankings with a 38.44 that he ran in winning the Tiffin Region.  Jr. Jordan Beight of Grandview is OH D3 #2 with his Lancaster Regional winning time of 39.38.  Three others went sub-40 in their Regionals:  Liberty Center Sr. Alec Myers went 39.78, Sr. Zachary Spanfellner of Elmwood went 39.84 and Arcadia Sr. Clint Recker went 39.85.  Excluding Snyder's sub-39. run, there is 1.41 seconds of separation between the other 11 qualifiers.  It's a tough race and requires strength to close over the last hurdle and the spring to the finish.  It should be an exciting last 50m.

800 Meter Run

Jr. Josh Conrad of East Canton is the favorite with the only time under 1:56.00 of the qualifiers.  He won the Navarre Regional with a 1:55.79.  Maplewood Jr. Jake Hall is the highest ranked returner from his 4th place finish last year.  Hall ran 1:57.06 and was 2nd to Conrad at Navarre with a 1:56.34.  Navarre was by far the fastest Region with So. Lucas Clark of Smithville and Sr. Jacob Paule of Aquinas running 3rd & 4th with OH D3 #'s 5 &6.  clark ran 1:56.41 and Paul 1:56.46.  This 800 will have a crazy finish.  It's going to to take a 1:55 or better to win and just may come down to who can hold on the longest.

200 Meter Dash

With the defending champion, Jacob Coates of JFK Warren out, Jr.  Mason Warnimont of Cory-Rawson becomes the favorite.  He won the Tiffin Region in 21.96 and is the only qualifier under 22.00.  He was 4th last year in 22.24 and is the returner.  The Tiffin Region just may have been the State finals preview.  #2-4 at Tiffin are #2-4 in the D3 rankings.  Sr. Cole Fortner of Wynford was 2nd (22.15), Sr. Baily Storehold of Delta was 3rd (22.23) and Jr. Isaac Urban was 4th (22.34), but ran 22.25 in the Regional prelims.  Aside from Warnimonts time, the all of the other 11 qualifiers are separated by just .49 seconds.

3,200 Meter Run

Maplewood Sr. Tristan Dahmen is the defending State Champion with a time of 9:16.99.  He is ranked D3 #3 with a 9:24.92.   Antwerp Sr. Sam Williamson was 3rd in 9:25.88.  Sr. Jacob Caniford of Aquinas was 4th last year in 9:26.63 and is ranked D3 #2 with a 9:24.71, but he is doubling.  Sr. Dan Seas of Peebles is #4 with a 9:26.29.  So. Chad Johnson of Colonel Crawford is #5 with a 9:26.96.  He was 7th last year with a 9:32.60.  Throw out the Regional times with the exception of Sr. Aaron Wood of Fisher Catholic.  He ran a State D3 leading time of 9:16.58 in winning the Lancaster Region making a statement.  A lot in this race depends on who is doubling and who will go with Wood.  Dahmen seems to have a way and a will to win.  Expect the top 3 to all be under 9:20.

4x400 Meter Relay

Two teams are under 3:25.  Eastwood won the Tiffin Region with a 3:24.21 and East Canton won the Navarre Region with a 3:24.95.  D3 #3 and #4 were the runners-up in the Tiffin and Navarre Regions.  Columbus Grove went 3:25.41 at Tiffin and Bellaire went 3:25.94 at Navarre.  The only other team under 3:26. is Waynesfield-Goshen who went 3:25.94 for 3rd at Tiffin.  Expect these 4 team to battle it out for the top spot.   The Eastwood boys are:  Jr. Logan Baugher, Sr. Sam Church, Jr. Ryan Reiter and So. Isaac Emahiser.  The East Canton boys are all underclassmen:  Jr. Zach McClaskey, Fr. Kyeem Newell-Owens, Jr. James McCullough and So. Josh Conrad.  Eastwood may have the experience and the  wheels to win!
