Dublin Coffman sophmore Abby Steiner moved into the National, elite spotlight this morning with an acceptance of her invitation to run in the Adidas Girls Dream 100. Shown above at the start of her anchor leg in the recent OHSAA D1 State 4x200, where she took the baton some 35m behind, blistered her 200 leg, leading her team to a win by .01 seconds.
Steiner, only a sophmore, burst onto the Ohio sprint scene last year as a freshman, winning the 60 and the 200 in the OATCCC State Indoor Championships with times of 7.55 and 24.80. Outdoors in 2015, she was 2nd in the D1 100m with a time of 11.89 (11.87p) and won the 200 in 23.96.
In 2016, Steiner repeated her wins indoors in the 60 and the 200 with times of 7.38 and 24.07. She was 6th in the NBNI Championships with a 23.97. Outdoors, she won the D1 100 and the 200 with times of 11.87 (11.60p) and 23.92 (23.75p). She also ran PR's of 11.58 and 23.63 earlier in the year that were FAT with legal winds. Both of her times were under the current State records, but in Ohio, there must be at least six teams in a meet for a tie or mark to count as an official State record.
Adidas Girls Dream 100 - The final entrants won't be announced until tomorrow, and I'll update as soon as possible, but, Steiner (US #23) can be very competitive in this 100. She'll have to contend with three Florida girls for sure, including US #1 Jr. Katia Seymor of Palatka, FL who has run 11.26 and is the 2A FL State Champion in the 100/200, US #20, Jr. Amuru Patterson of Haines City, FL who is the Flo Golden South champion and the FL 4A State champion in the 100/200 and Tamari Davis. Davis is a 7th grader who has run 11.77! With just these four girl's there is only a .51 spread. Realistically, Steiner should run 3rd or 4th. Can she win? Yes, she's very competitive and wants to go under the 11.58 she has run this year. To win she will have to have her best start of the year and a great acceleration and finish. It will be a very close race and expect the winner to go under 11.25.
