The Tiger Classic - Maumee's Zak Kirk & Lexington's Mackenna Curtis-Collins make Early Season Statements!



"The" Tiger Classic, hosted by Seneca East, is only in it's fourth year, but is quickly becoming a North Central Ohio premier event.  On a hot and humid day, Maumee Sr. Zak Kirk, the OH #3 preseason and D2 #1 preseason boy, made a statement that he is deserving of his preseason rankings.  He led Black Division race through the mile in a comfortable 4:52 before succumbing to heat.  Kirk won in 16:01.28.  He finished ahead of a of very strong field that included Sr. Andrew Stump of Ashland (16:13.42), So. Kyle Johnston of Lexington (16:21.02, Perkins Sr. Owen Krewson (16:32.53) and OH preseason D2 Jr. Ryan Johnston of Lexington.

In the Team Race, the Lexington boy's went 3-5-10-17 and 32 (67) in winning over Medina who went 6-11-12-19 and 26 (74).


In the Black Division girl's race, Division 1 Medina, led by Sr. Tarynn Cullins, scored just 35 points defeating two strong D2 teams in Lexington and Cloverleaf.   The Medina girl's went 3-5-9-10 and 11.  There number 6 girl was 13th.  Lexington went 1-7-8-12 and 24 (52) and Cloverleaf wnet 2-16-18-22 and 31 (89).

Lexington Sr. Mackenna Curtis-Collins won the girl's race in 19:22.84 as she led the Lexington girls.  She replaces graduated Dominique Clairmonte as the Lexington girl's team leader and her run today demonstrated that she is well deserving of her Preseason #3 D2 girls ranking.

Oberlin Sr. Asta Rustad arguably had the run of the day.  In the girl's Orange Division race, and in the first Cross Country race of her career, she won in 18:56.58.  She is an exchange student from Norway and not used to the Ohio heat and one can only wonder what she will run when the weather cools off.




The Orange Division girl;s team race was won by Northmor with a score of 54.  The Northmor girl's, led by Jr. Maria Lee and Fr. Jessica Duryea, went 4-5-8-18 and 1.


The boy's Orange Division race was close, with Jr. Russell Schultz of Black River outlasting another Jr., Cameron Stark of Liberty Center.  Schultz ran 16:50.90.  Stark went 16:53.54.  




The Orange Division team race was won by Edison.  Edison was led by two freshman, #3 Daniel Lambert (17:22.21) and Tyler Coon (17:22.57)

The host team, Seneca East won both the boys and girl's White Division team races.   In the boys race, they went 6-8-13-20 and 27 for 74 points, edging out Mapleton with 80.  


The boy's White Division race was won by St. Wendelin Sr. Nick Dehaven is 16:30.28.



The Seneca East girl's, led by So. Hailey King went 4-9-10-22 and 26 to better the second place Mansfield Christian who cored 87.  



Mansfield Christian was led by Sr. Clair Reynolds who won the girl's race in 19:15.70.
