The 13th 2016 Nike Cross Nationals are this Saturday in Portland, Oregon on Glendoveer Golf Course. The event will be web cast live nikecrossnationals.com. Ohio Jr. Dustin Horter of Lakota East and Sr. India Johnson of Hilliard Davidson will both be running in the 22 teams of 7 and 45 Individual fields. What are Horter and Johnson's chances? MileSplit's Brandon Miles put together a Nike Cross Regionals Merge - link below. Horter's 4th place finish in the Midwest Regional has him ranked 15th (15:59.90). The Midwest Regional winner, Danny Kilrea of Illinois has a 4th place ranking with his winning time of 14:51.60. Johnson fares a little better in the merged rankings with a #7 ranking (17:07.50). The Midwest Regional winner, Fr. Katelynne Hart of Illinios is tied for 6th with her time of 17:05.00. My predictions for the race. Horter is the 4th ranked underclassman and their is a ton of talented, experienced runners ahead of him. He could get top 10 with a PR effort, but realistically, Top 15. My pick - 12th. Johnson is experienced and knows that she can run at this level. It will be the Cross race of her life, but she can realistically be Top 5. Definitely, top 10. My pick 4th. The key for both will be how fast the leaders take the race out on a European type course and the weather conditions. They will need to be patient and run within themselves through the two mile, not losing contact with the lead group, and then being able to finish the last 800 strong.
