Oak Park Sr. Cameron Cooper has committed to run the 800 in the 2017 MileSplit Showcase at Spire on Feb. 12th. Cooper was 3rd in the Showcase 800m in 2015 with a 1:54.21. Last year he was 3rd at NBNI in the 800 with a 1:50.97. Outdoors he was the MI State Champion in the 800 with a 1:51.68 and followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the NBNO, going sub-1:50 with a 1:49.71. The goal at Spire will be to go sub-1:50 Indoors. (photo Shawn Conlon)
Indoors, Cooper runs with the Motor City Track Club. Motor City will be bringing some other top MI runners to join Cooper at the Showcase, including three of the State top girl's 400m runners: Dorriann Colemon and Taylor Manson and Janae Barksdale. The girl's can all run the 60 and the 200 but their specialty is the 400 where they were ranked 1, 4 and 6 indoors in MI in 2016 with Manson leading the rankings with a 54.59 that she ran in winning the UK HS Invitational. She has a 53.94 outdoor PR that she ran in finishing 2nd at the NBNO. If Chloe Abbott of Northville commits to come down and Granville, OH's Natalie Price commits, it could be a very hot girl's 400. Abbott was 4th last year at the Showcase with a 56.66. Price is reigning Ohio Indoor and Outdoor State Champion in 2016 with a 55.63 indoor and a 53.95 outdoors.
